Finally got to meet and talk with Victory's Lead Designer Mike Song at the New York IMS this weekend. I told him that he's highly regarded here and I urged him to check out the site. He was eager to describe the process of how the Victory Core came about. More on that later.

More, more, I loved to hear about how the Vision came about, though it may be obvious to some, to me that translate to oblivious...I like to hear what is in great minds that get to what they made out of the garage.

The first test version of the Vision in 1921 - designed by Anold Song and passed along to his grandson, Mike.

I. also got to meet Mr Song at the NY IMS I shook his hand and thanked him for saving my life. He seemed puzzled so I explained how my 2008 got the name Deer Crusher.

Great guy and a brilliant designer

I bring this up after some thought, because race always seems to be something that nobody wants to talk about in public. The minute it's brought up, you're considered a racist. Thats a shame. If you know me, or my wife or kids, you might better understand why I am bringing it up in the first place.

Anyways, with that preamble.........

With all the "Lin-sanity" going on now, Asian Americans have been put in a different sort of spotlight other than the stereotypical one.

I've always thought how cool it is that an Asian American is designing "The Other American Motorcycle", with a company that is seriously altering the definition of American Iron and the American Biker stereotype.

In all honesty, it is actually one of the reasons my wife likes my Victory's more than any other I've owned. She has actually proudly pointed out the fact to some of her friends that it was designed by an Asian American. Although I doubt they would admit it, I think my grown kids are kind of proud of that aspect of it as well.

Hopefully there will come a time when all of this just doesn't matter but for now........ Mike Song, if you're reading this, Good Job, and thanks.

I hate hyphenated Americans. Mr Song is an American designing American motorcycles, and doing a damn fine job!

I dislike the term myself, hence the last line of my comments.

And he damn sure is.

I had a bad attitude in my younger years I got in to a Plane crash when I woke up months later and could finally speak one of my buds was telling me about the night of my surgery he described doctors in rain gear covered in my blood & guts he then went on to say if I was consious I would have died because the guy who saved me was an Indian not the Native to US and I probably would have refused his help on that basis. He was probably right.

I have gotten better since those days my recent spinal tune-up was preformed by a Dr. Howard Yeon an excellent Neurosurgen.

And as I posted above I was honored to meet Mike Song shake his hand and thank him for saving my life.

Met him last year in Laughlin he was showing off the Highball and asking lots of questions and doing some hard listening. Didn't realize who he was the whole time I was talking to him, just seemed real interested in what I thought about the Victory bikes. My wife was helping wih demo ride sign up and when I turned to talk to her it hit me who he was, boy did I feel stupid. Glad I had lots of praise for the way the VV was disigned.

My dear departed wife of 44 years was Chinese, and my new darling is Japanese. People are people - and brains are brains - no color involved - just attitudes and upbringing. Assholes are assholes - no matter what color they are.
I just got a kick out of an old picture (a few posts back) and tried to have fun with it - "Anold Song" ---- An old song ... come on guys - just fun !

Our Mr. Mike Song is brilliant in what he has given me and the rest of you. Thank you MIKE !

Next time someone see's Michael Song; please ask him why he designed access to the headlight bulbs to be an almost impossible task. Ask him if he was having a bad day when he drafted that particular detail on the Vision.
