Yes,

I was worried about it too but, now with 37,200 miles, I just do not think about it any more. My miles per gallon sit regularly at 43-45 at 70 MPH (unless I am into a strong head wind).
If someone mentions it I just tell them I forgot to clean my guns the last time i shot someone who followed too closely.

Normal for direct injected EFI machines, and the more you tweek them the more it will happen. That is why it is good open up the motor once in a while to blow the carbon off the valves. Some cleaners will help, but at some point you will need to clean the throttle body. High octane fuel will help, and don't use octane boasters.

Did you use a high temp sealer on the tips? When installing, there is a small gap between the tip and the back end of the muffler/exhaust. You are getting some extra blow-by there. I have it on mine as well and simply run the piss out of it and don't worry about it. It can be cleaned as mentioned earlier if you are really concerned.

There is another thread on this with more suggestions....do a search. Brake cleaner was mentioned along with the Green stuff in this post. Both work okay. I find the best is the goof off remover stuff with some fine steel wool. This gets the carbon off the best. I then spray pig spit on to help it last longer and easier to clean later on. Doing this is a 5 minute job now.....more riding time instead of cleaning my ass

It's the nature of the beast , most engines do the same most don't notice or pay attention to it , nothing to worry about unless it becomes excessive the mixture could be off or just needs a simple tune up .

I've had that same problem since day 1. Since I disassembled the rear end of my bike this winter, including the exhaust, I took the tips to work, taped off the chrome and bead blasted the centers. When I got them home I painted the fluted centers with black paint, as well as repainting the mufflers. It was cheaper than buying new tips and I'll see how it looks once the snow melts off.

I think you have a little cajun in you, everytime I see this post I think of blackened tapia and other cajun dishes.  What goes good with blackened gattling tips, scorned Harley?

Blackened tips are much better than white tips. Better rich than excessively lean.

BEWARE OF BRAKE CLEANER!!! When exposed to heated pipe it could emit a very poisonous gas called PHOSGENE. This shit can literally kill you if you do not apply it correctly.

Been using chrome cleaner since I first noticed this on mine. Works just fine and doesn't take but a minute per tip.

so when everyone says "unless excessive.." new question. When I got it parked near a wall in garage, and fire er up, black on the wall excessive enough to worry?
