New Bohemia, VA | in England. I was just reading a thread on the darkside on another forum and read that the U. K. makes it illegal to run nonstandard tyres. (I had to do the British spelling). The few post that I read those in the U. K. think those who ride the DS here in the U. S. are doomed. I guess we have to show the world what freedom is all about. I'm waiting for my government issue car tires though before I go DS.... |

Oklahoma City | That is interesting, but I'm wondering what reasoning they are using to make it illegal. Do they have any hard evidence to say that the CT causes crashes? To me it seems rather silly as I've never seen or heard anything to make me think that a CT isn't an option.
Whether you want to use one or not (I'm still debating on it myself) is the whole point. You should be able to choose how you want to modify YOUR vehicle. As long as said vehicle isn't a menace/safety hazard on the road then modifications should be encouraged. Cheers. |

Pittsburgh, PA | I know in Pennsylvania the law states it must be a d.o.t. approved tire, doesnt say it has to be a motorcycle tire. |

Anderson, IN (48mi NE of downtown Indianapolis) | Some European communities are very strict about modifications to vehicles. I know in some areas the body of the vehicle cannot be modified. I have read articles where cars did not pass inspection because the owner mounted stereo speakers where there where none originally. This might be the same for using non-motorcycle specific tires. |

| <p>I would say it might be something to do with the different road surfaces. Here all we have is dirt cement and asphalt and for the most part are wide. Where you have narrow roads and hwy's where you can do 150 if you want and you have cobble stone roads. Yes it just might be a old laws I have never been over the pound but I guess you could be the leaded of the pack and get the law changed.</p><p>As for legal they would have to prove that its not <br /></p>

| DS is legal in European counties. Their "non standard" is what our DOT approved is. A DS tire is legal as long as weight, speed, sideload, etc rating are applicable to your vehicle. |

in PA and when i called nationwide insurance co, when i was looking into doing the darkside on another bike i had years ago. they both said the same thing. as long as the tire meets D.O.T. standards it is Not illegal since there is No law stating other wise. as far as putting a aircraft tire on your car, if you have a car with tires that Big then more power to ya... lol Now keep in mind im only talking about Pennsylvania. but i have had both of my bikes that were Darksided inspected year after year and they never failed. the only think the inspection station/shop cared about was 1) tread depth.. and when they noticed it was a CT they said, well its a D.O.T. approved tire and there is No law against what you are doing so its Legal.... |

Pittsburgh, PA | The reason i mentioned about contacting the insurance company was, years ago when i did my first CT on my kawasaki, people were saying things like, your insurance company will deny your claim if you get in a accident and they see you had a ct on your motorcycle. so before i spent the time and money going to the dark side i just came right out and asked my insuance company.. they said the same thing.. if its D.O.T. approve then.... and on another note... there is much more to it than just blaming a ct for a accident.. LOL if someone hits your parked bike, or hits you head on (add to the list) do you think they would blame your CT for that.. LOL the nay say'rs wanted to add all these theories. so i came right out and asked... i wasnt about to spend thousands on a motorcycle only to have my insurance voided in time of need. |

I have a Triumph Rocket 3; besides my Victory Vision. I frequent the Rocket 3 boards every day. Let me tell you....
...the British Rocket 3 Captains (we have Rockets so we are "captains" ) have no issues running car tires on their Rockets over there.

Bay of Gigs, WA | I'll have to install flotation tyres on my Vic before I ride over to Old Blighty to challenge their tyranical tyre laws, I guess. Notice how I got "tyre" in there twice? I mean three tymes? Bloody Brilliant! |
