Some health issues kept me out of the saddle since the end of June, but yesterday we put on a few layers and hit the road. We headed up to the top of Chinook Pass in the Washington Cascades. It was in the mid-40s at the beginning of the trip, and 37 degrees up near the summit with a light dusting of snow. Pure magic.

After being off the bike for such a long time, I had wondered what it would fee like to be back on the Vision. Would it be as I remembered? Had I romanticized the bike and the ride?

No I had not. After just a few minutes all I could think was "How damn lucky am I to have this bike?"

I guess when you ride everyday you tend to gloss over the little things. But yesterday was all about the 'little things'. The cool, crisp air. The rumble of the motor as she climbed the mountain. The thrill of a low lean-angle on a switchback. The feeling of my co-pilot in the seat behind me. And of course the heated grips and seats.

It was like coming home again.

So enjoy your ride folks. You have a bit of magic there. Sometimes it takes a little while away to remember that.

I lost my summer of riding this year also to health issues.  My first ride back in the saddle was a 300 mile lunch run with a buddy and his Bandit 1250S taking all 2-lane roads.  Aaahhhh......

Dave, Tom - Glad you both are back on 2 wheels. Us snow-belt riders know that feeling every spring.

At least you boys are back in the saddle. Some went a little farther for lunch.

I remember 3 years ago, right after having a cervical fusion surgery and healing up from it, I tore a bicep and ended up missing a whole year's worth of riding. Boy it sure was nice to get all healed up and back in the saddle again.

Thanks everyone.

It's amazing how I feel 'whole' again.

Riding really is good for the soul.

Many times I've been up 410 to the top of Chinook-either side of the pass has got to be in the top, I don't know, 100 anyway, if not the top 10, rides on the planet for sheer majesty and beauty. A cold one at the Natchez Tavern on the way back caps it off, too! Or Whistlin' Jacks on the east side. Soon it'll be closed for the winter, then it's time for skiing at Crystal Mountain. Too bad there's no hubs to turn in, 'cause with the heat on board, these Vics could be the go-to year 'round haulers! Good on ya for making it back, Breaker!

Glad you are back in the saddle again. I missed 4 months last year and 1 month this year it was terrible! We are forecast to have rain so I might have to drive the van to the office tomorrow Having a Vision to ride makes missing a day in the saddle worse than other bikes!

When we miss our cycle therapy for whatever reason, it leaves us a little .... off.

July, Augest & September out with a hernia. Five day stayin the Mayo Clinic. The worse pain was walking past my vision! Before that it was 8 weeks of healing from cancer surergy (8 day stay @ Mayo 9.5 hours in the O.R.) sold my 750 Valcin got my 1st clear CAT scan & pulled the trigger on an 08 VV in March 2010 with 22 miles on. Rode during cimo treatments almost everyday. My 2 Visions ( bike & my wife for letting me get it, also for putting up with me) saved my life.
