I did a search, but couldn't find the answer to this question.

Has anyone successfully attempted to have their HID replaced under warranty?

The only thing I did find out is that the Visions HID seems to have a really sketchy reputation on this board.

I bought the bike in the middle of August. It's now the middle of November and riding home, I turned on the HID as it started to get dark. NOTHING.

5600 miles, and about 90 days and it's gone. I never use it during the day, and very few hours on it at night.

It's my understanding that this thing has the potential to set me back somewhere around $400.00! There is no way that this can be considered normal wear and tear.

SOMEONE PLEASE make me feel better before I head to the dealer tomorrow.

I would check the connections to the switch under the console, and the relay in that order. Especially if you have removed the console to add other accessories like GPS or fog lamps etc.

I don't recall anyone badmouthing the HID system for anything other than for its price; but it could be faulty memory on my part, or that I've slept since then.

My HID lamp is switched on 100% of the time that I'm on the road and is now 3 years old.

I ride a lot of short commutes and never bother to touch the switch and it fires up every time. It is my understanding that an HID lamp has no filament, so theoretically the only part that could fail is the ballast.

If the ballast is bad then it should be easy to get a warranty repair.

Do you feel better now?

I run mine constantly with the exception of group riding in the dark. I have had mine replaced under warranty when it was 3months old and have not had a single problem since. 28,000 plus miles in 2 years 5 months......

Average bulb life for an HID is 2,000 hours.
2000 hours driving at 50 MPH equals 100,000 miles.
If you only average 40 MPH, you should still get 80,000 miles out of it.
Halogen bulbs are at best 1/2 the life of HID bulbs.
Any moisture entering the luminaire would dramatically reduce it's lifespan.
If your HID fails earlier than stated above, it most likely is ballast, fuse, or wiring related.

Light bulbs are usually considered to be 'consumables' and guaranteed to work until they don't. Your Chevy dealer won't replace burned out bulbs under warranty unless there is some other, underlying issue with the electrical system so why would you expect VICTORY to be any different?

You didn't state what year of bike you have. My 2009 failed the hid light at about 3000 miles and after doing some checking the light had water in it because of know problem with light housing. Dealer sent picture to Victory and installed a new light assembly that included new bulbs

I just left the dealer. They asked if I could leave it with them. I couldn't, so I'm bringing it in on Saturday. They said it should be covered under warranty. Guess I'll know for sure on Saturday!

Actually, I do expect exactly that. Furthermore, I've demandsed and received exactly that, under almost exactly the same conditions with both GM and VW. Light bulbs have warranties too. There is a reasonable expectation that they will last longer than 90 days, particularly considering the price.

If it had been a year or two, my expectations would be a little different.

Exactly! HID lighting by design is efficient, durable, and long lasting. If it stops working after a relatively short period of time, it usually indicates that there is a problem not attributable to fair wear and tear.

By the way, it's a 2011. It's in my signature at the bottom.
