Two thousand miles into a four thousand mile trip on the STARSHIP......in Cocoa Beach awaiting the Shuttle launch Friday.

Was riding with my sister and brother-in-law today and we stopped for lunch and when we came out I noticed that my clutch cover plate is now the color of anodized aluminum (a light bronze).

Tried to get some photos but it was too bright and doesn't show up in the photos.

The STARSHIP has been running great, no problems with the clutch or shifting, no strange noises, checked my oil and the level was on the mark and there is no burnt smell.

Had the STARSHIP serviced by the dealer before I left Houston.

It wasn't that color when I left Houston a week ago, double check the images I have posted in the gallery and they show it to be the shiny bright color it was when I took it home from the dealer.

Any thoughts or ideas....

I'm more concerned with what caused it to change color in the last week...

I am losing something there too. I noticed when washing it last week that there was some flaking going on. I have a feeling Lloyd will be getting more of my money soon.

Mine is doing the same thing...flaking and discoloration...I figured it was just a cheap finish on the cover....will be replacing it soon with one of the many custom ones out there.

I've been told this is a common occurance on the Victory, all models. I suppose thats why folks replace them with nicer derby covers.

For what its worth, 40k on the 05 Kingpin I just sold and the cover looked like new.. My wife's Vegas never had any discoloration after 20k, nor does my buddies Hammer..... My Vision on the other hand has major discoloration and the clear is flaking off (but damn I still love them cams!!!).. I figure our bikes running hotter than the other models cause this problem, but that's just my humble opinion..

I replaced mine with th Arlen Ness covers. But I did this when the bike was new so I can't speak to any discoloration.

I cleaned the remaining clearcoat off with some solvent and it looks good. Matches the rest of the engine.

The sun is what is causing the problem. If vic used poor clear coat or the aluminum wasn't cleaned your going to get what you have.
The cover is just aluminum so you could get some polish and with elbow grease make it better then what it was.

My clutch side is fine. The other side flaked off quickly after taking ownership. It didn't change colors, just flaked. Never did anything about it because it didn't seem to harm anything.
