I've been interested in putting lights between the grips and the bar weights but I'm a little squeamish about drilling a hole to run the wires. The idea is to insert a 3/8" thick clear plastic spacer behind the weights with an LED imbedded in it that would be wired into the turn signals. To run the wires I will have to drill through the plug that the weight mounting screw attaches to. I have heated grips and don't want to mess them up when I start drilling.

Anyone familiar enough with the internal construction of the handlebars to know if this can be done safely?

The grips are wired externally and just slide on over the bar so that shouldn't be an issue.
