Posts: 66 Oklahoma City | Well, finally able to place one on order. The ship date says 24 October but I'm hoping it's before that. Either way I'm stoked and can't wait to put that on my baby. Next up should be lowers, then it's time to save for cams and a big bore kit. |

Posts: 135 Chesterfield, VA | According to the Utopia web site it appears to be a different mount for the 2010 and up Visions that already have the slit in the seat. Not sure, but you could probably just buy the new mount and use the older backrest. And by the way, I also let my Utopia back rest go with my 2009 trade-in last month. Wish I had known this before, because I like the Utopia much better than the Victory OEM drivers back rest.

Posts: 752 Broken Arrow, OK | Ordered mine a month ago for a 2011 Vision. Build/ship date was Sept 19. Got it yesterday and installed it. Pretty cool how it matches down to the stitched trim on the edges. Haven't road tested yet. Install 10 minutes. |

Posts: 639 Tri Cities, WA | cant wait to order a utopia backrest. just need to save for it. My back sure could use. plus i could have bought one of your used ones and saved me a few bucks. Always take off extra's from your bike before trading it in. You never really recoup your cash by doing that.

...how in the hell to you mount your bike with those sticking up? To make matters even worse; the side passenger padding on the trunk frequently catches the tip of my boot as well. when I swing my leg over the seat to dismount.
Any tricks; are some of you trying to lift you leg over the front seat directly, with the backrest installed?

Posts: 307 Columbia, SC | The toe of my boot hits the passenger hand grabs or seat too sometimes. I've seen people put their leg right up on or over the rider seat and just slide over. Nothing wrong with that. I'll sometimes even mount/dismount from the other side (I park close to the left side of our garage so sometimes I pull in REALLY close). I can't really imagine having a backrest and being able to swing the leg over it. Even folded down, I see it hitting my pants or something. I'll probably just use the front seat directly after installing one.

The biggest reason I didn't buy the Vic one was price, second reason is that you can't adjust it from what I've seen. |

Wife gets on first and I find myself tossing a leg over from the right side of the bike. Same with a dismount but reverse. I hop off first on the right side, she folds down the backrest and climbs off on the left.
Since getting the Vision, I don't know what it's like to ride solo so can't comment on that, lol

I don't have a drivers back rest, but I have always stepped over the seat instead of slinging a leg and kicking everything from the saddle bag to the trunk. My wife mounts from the right side while I'm straddling the bike upright. |

It's adjustable.
Not as much fore and aft adjustability as the Utopia from the looks of the pics on the Utopia website, but it does have quite a bit. Up and down too, of course.
I personally think the Vic version looks better. It's a bit narrower and doesn't look as clunky. Still gives plenty of support though.

Posts: 1117 Northeast Ohio | Well put, Chris. The smaller size also gives you a smaller rear pocket (if that is important to you). Since I had the Utopia on my 2008 and the Vic one on my 2011, I can tell you that I like the Vic one better. The adjustment screw on the back can actually be found, and turned, with gloves on. Oh yeah, it's chrome too. |

I'm not exactly sure what I ended up paying but I do know it's significantly more than the Utopia. I got mine rolled up into the purchase price.
If your primary concern is price, it would have to be a win for the Utopia. They do cost less, and I haven't ever read anything negative about them.
Functionally, they seem to both be more than adequate. The Utopia seems to have more adjustability but to me it looks like you would never need or use that much forward adjustment. The Victory's adjustment range is more than enough plus it's easy to adjust forward and back while you are riding. I don't think you can do that with the Utopia.
The Utopia has a bigger bag on the back that can be detached and, with the provided strap, double as a very nice little purse. Ehhhh, I don't need that! The Vic bag can be detached too, but doesn't have the cute matching strap.
The Vic bag has plenty of room for my wallet, cellphone, and a pack of cigs (if I still smoked)
Appearance wise, I personally give the nod to the Victory backrest. It just seems to go with the bike better. It has a high quality chrome finish on the support, plus it has VICTORY embossed on the bag. Kind of cool.
If you ride two up I think the width differences between the two gives the Vic a win. It looks like it would take away some leg room for the passenger. On the other hand, that easy to use adjustment knob on the vic version looks kind of intimidating pointing towards the passengers crotch! Bottom line is that I just don't use the backrest when I'm two up.
Honestly, if I hadn't bought my bike out of state and immediately started riding it 1/4 way across the country, I probably would have went with the Utopia. That would have been based strictly on price though, and after several thousand miles now, I'm glad I got the Victory backrest instead.

Cool, I didn't know that the Vic version was adjustable. It would be nice if they said that on the description on their website, but that can be said about most of their items. Personally I like the look of the Utopia from the pictures I've seen, but to each their own. |
