Posts: 64 St. Louis, MO United States | I could not find a clear answer searching the forum about using 3.5 mm mini and iPod interface at the same time so I did it.
It works. I just plug in the iPod when I want it or I use the 3.5 mm when I stream satellite radio through my phone. Just do not have them both connected at the same time. Should not damage anything but might sound strange. I just tapped into the wire harness with a regular stereo mini cable I cutoff to length for the iPod compartment and they sit in there side by side. |

1) Remove body trim in front of seat and center console.
12) Cut off approx 8-10" fomr a 3.5mm mini stereo cable and slide it through the grommet in the storage compaortment
3) Strip off approx 2" from the cut end and separate the two wires and shield.
4) Strip off the end of the two wires approx 1/8".
5) Since the shield is ground you can use a meter to determine which wire is TIP and which wire is RING as this will determine LEFT and RIGHT channels respectfully.
6) You will need 3 Posi-Tap connectors Part Number PTA2022R. www.posi-lock.com
7) There are two end to this splice connector. 1 end is for a "T" connection and the other is single ended.
8) Using the single ended end screw end on each one of the Posi tap connectors to the end of each one of the 3.5mm mini exposed and stripped wires.
9) Locate the cable going into the side sompartment for the ipod/ 3.5mm mini stock cable.
10) Follow that cable back to the plug in factory connector.
11) On the bike side of the connection plug strip back approx 1-2" CAREFULLY of the outer insulation.
12) Carefully separate the multiple wires. Specifically you want to find the Blue, Orange, and Green.
13) Remove the "T" splice (grey) end of the posi tap connector for the SHIELD. Slide the Grey end around the GREEN wire and tighten the other end of the posi tap with the shiled onto the green wire.
14) Do the same for the BLUE wire (Left Channel or TIP) and the ORANGE wire (Right Channel or Sleeve.
15) Heat Shrink and or Tape the connections where possible.
I then set my radio back in and reconnected to do a final test before I put the bike back together. |

Thanks for sharing the info. |
