Although I can live with the side view area's of the Visions mirrors, I dislike not being able to quickly see immediately behind me. I'm going to install a rear view camera; seeing a good U-Tube review on this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5-LCD-Monitor-Back-Up-Camera-Wired-Car-Re...

...so will be crafting a bracket to install the camera above my license plate; and will figure out a way to install the monitor a little forward (while still being attached) to the middle of the top dash shelf.

The camera will not be my sole device for "clearing the rear" but will aid in a convenient view at leisure, without having to lean left or right; trying to see what's behind me. Mirrors and a head check will always be primary view points to the rear.

Anyone else have a rear mounted camera system on their Vision?

Pretty neat. Do you have a plan for waterproofing the monitor?

JMHO, but I don't think it is a bad idea. Seems like another tool in the safety toolbox. Just has to be used properly.

Plus I don't remember anyone playing the 'safety card' for all the light switches, cup holders, GPS, Radar detectors, blue tooth headsets, air horns, onboard air compressors, garage door openers, etc etc etc that folks are adding to their bikes. Even stock ours has more switches/accessories than any bike I have ever owned, but I think most add to the safety of the bike in one way or another, just like the rear camera could.

The rear camera monitor is not going to be used as a primary means for clearing traffic to the rear. The mirrors do that quite adequately (at least to the sides and parallel to the bike).

The monitor will be used as a supplemental device. You can't see a car speeding behind you well enough while at a stop; just with the mirrors, on the Vision especially with the trunk mounted. nor will it be used exclusively while in motion; a quick glimpse of it while scanning gauges (we all do scan gauges, right?) is not hard to incorporate in the instrumental field of view on the Vision.

It's not going to affect my ability to ride safely. It's just another option that's available; if one has the ability to safely use it. I can rub my belly with one hand, chew gum and pat the top of my head all at the same time; so I think that multitasking on a motorcycle (we all do it) is not a problem. If you have negative concerns about it, then it is definitely not for you and I would agree that you should not mount one yourself.

Ad far as waterproofing the monitor goes; I'll wipe clear silicone carefully into areas of the monitors housing (where is splits. etc) to weatherproof it. It's be mounted on the lip of the visor over the instrument cluster and while moving, fairly protected from inclement weather. I've used a Garmin car type GPS in some very long; torrential downpours with no issue to the unit itself. While stopped, a plastic sandwich baggie works well and is very easy to slip over monitors such as this.

I'll take pic's later once I receive it and get it installed.

If this was a true statement, I would mount mirrors that would allow me to see directly behind me, otherwise I would probably quit riding altogether.

Yes, those small, round convex blind spot mirrors can help you get a glimpse of the rear. But it's not satisfactory enough; at least for me while astride the Vision.

What would be really cool is to have a rear view mirror array; such as what the Revue's helmet projects as a rear view to the rider:

http://www.reevu.com/rv.asp

..except adapt the reflected path from the rear of the Vision, through the frame below the seat and then up into the rider's view on a mirror attached to the windscreen.

..unlike all of the bikes that I have owned and ridden over the decades; up to and including my other bike; my Triumph Rocket 3.... the Victory Vision needs a (dare I say) "visionary" rear view system.

Some of you may poo-poo the idea all you want; but it won't make a difference. You can't see the forest for the tree's. It happens when some get set; in certain ways.

As an aside; this board is sort of like a Gold Wing board at times. Full of curmudgeons.... :-)

hate those convex mirrors personally, except on large trucks so you can get a full view in traffic when navigating in town, or when the cager decides to hang in your blind spot. Again, personally, the Vision mirrors are more than adequate and I see behind me just fine. You can put all the gadgets on your bike you desire, and perhaps you're talented enough to use them, remember, I'm from Virginia and like to keep it simple.

I can see Victory designing these to be incorporated into the mirrors like you see on cars in the rear view mirror when backing up. The will toggle on with a light press of a button and shine through the mirror . . . When off, the mirrors look like STD mirrors. I'm know Muth has the technology to do it and I personally think it is a plus to safety, not a negative. The reality of this will be if they can integrate it in a low cost way and make money on the idea.

Kinda like the HUD. Again, comes down to cost of system. Technology is there

The rear view monitor is just an excuse to put a DVD player in the trunk for porn.

I am concerned about what is coming at me from behind the vision when stopped at a light. My solution is stop at a slight angle so I can see the full lane behind me in one mirror.

Post pics when you get it running.

Ride safe.

I do what radioteacher does plus study who I'm pulling up behind to see where they are in the lane, stop about 1 1/2 car lengths back and stop so I'm pointed towards the biggest gap between the cars ahead of me and keep my Vulcan squinties on my mirror until the person behind me stops. Then I'll ease ahead about 3/4 car length so there is still some cushion in case whoever is stopped behind me gets nailed by the next moron in a pickup truck.
I also give it about 1 second or so after the light turns green, and clear both ways before moving or let the cage next to me pull out first so they get smacked not me as in Snohomish County, RED LIGHT means up to 7 more cars pushing thru the light including the occasional Everett Gestapo Crown Vic.
I've thought about trying to mount a very loud rear facing horn instead of a camera.

I think the HUD is the BEST thing Vic ever did for the Vision. I'm soiled and love mine. But I don't think many people get that option. It's pretty pricey.

While I love the idea of a rear video display I'm very content with the simplicity of the wedge mirrors i put on in my Vision in my 1st week of ownership. I think two cameras one left and one right with an overlapping center and monitors in the place of the mirrors would kick ass right up to the time they stop working-Brian

From what I've seen in most places,

Green means 'Go'.

Yellow means 'Go faster'.

Red means 'You have five more seconds'.

I agree that this would not be my first upgrade, but I don't think anybody needs to be trying to talk him out of it. Every bit of innovation that is tried makes the brand stronger. Let's celebrate that.

Go for it, willtill ! I'll be looking forward to seeing how well it works out for ya.

I pull a small trailer with a mountain bike on it. I cannot see the bicycle at all while riding the Vision. It could fall off and I would not know it. A camera would be useful in my case. I am curious as to how this turns out.
