I'm starting this thread to try and have one common place to discuss and explore the tuning of a Power Commander 5 with Autotune and AFR tables. PLEASE limit your comments and discussions to this brand only to minimize confusion. If you have another controller with autotune you would like to discuss, please start another thread under that controller's name.
OK, here goes. Please know that I am not an expert by any means. The info I provide below is what I have gleaned from surfing the net and is just a starting point to open discussion. I will provide links when available. Personally, if the info is important I always copy and save the link's info as no one knows how long that site and that page will be available.
I will start with a link to the difference between narrow band and wide band sensors. It is my understanding that the Vision comes with Narrow Band sensors. The PC 5 Autotune module has wide band sensors. There is a HUGE diference. If you want to know the difference check the links below.
Here's the link to a simpler explaination

And here's the link to another explanation:

Next there is the theoretical AFR's. Apparently the theoretical AFR for gasoline is 14.7:1 Further, it seems this is used by most bike manufacurors with narrow band sensors as it provides the best emmission standard, not the best performance!! Concensus seems to indicate that somewhere between 12.5:1 and 13.2:1 is the best performance AFR. Please keep in mind that the performance numbers give lower gas mileage! DUH! So when someone tunes their bike for max performance they should expect lower gas milage. It would seem this is a no brainer but some people tune for performance and then complain about lower gas mileage!! You cannot eat your cake and have it too!
Finally, I offer a link to a page where an HD owner give a very nice discussion on setting up your PC-V and AT. He even is kind enough to include AFR tables and map tablesHe also uses the hardware switch to change from a leaner AT to a rich base fixed map. This allows for the use of the AT most of the time and a quick change to the rich fixed map for better cooling. (A rich engine runs cooler) Perhaps a Vision owner with a PC5-AT setup could provide his tables and comments?

In addition to the above the AT module has the capacity to manipulate ignition timing and I think you can also tune AFR to each gear if you desire.
So, for if you really want to maximize your setup, it seems a one time trip to the tuner is a must. But for most of us, a little garage tuning does the trick. I look forward to the added wisdom of my fellow board members here at VIsion Riders. I know it will help me greatly when I finally get my autotune module!

Canada | HI all I have played a Little with the PCV a plus 2 in the timing in ALL windows now that is front and rear cylinder timing, you can tune out the low end stumble or lank power 1500 rpm to 2500 rpm just richen up the low end windows 13.2 13.5 if you mark the throttle to the windows on the computer and watch the RPM then you can go back to what window with the lamp top and change the AFR in that window there are more than 200 windows to make a just mints Plus front and rear Cylinders and you can EXTEND the RPM to 6000 RPM LARRY this should be FUN | |

Of course, all the time. I also had a PC-3 usb on my previous open loop EFI Victory, along with an analog AFR gauge mounted on my handlebars. I alway carried a small netbook computer with me and made changes to the CELLS at various throttle and rpms based on the visual data from the analog AFR meter.
On the PC5 (with AT300) I've tuned my AFR tables, along with pieces of the underlying fuel table in the idle range. I've also experimented with the timing a little too. I've reset the throttle (which everyone should do), set startup fuel, accel pump function, and rev-xtend to 6k rpm.
The reason I said "HUH" is that I couldn't figure out what point(s) you were trying to make. Your writing was disjointed...
