I just ordered ISO's for my 8 Ball. Apparently ISO's do not work with the heated grips. They just aren't big enough in diameter. Since I don't have heated grips I have been told the grips that fit every other Vic will work. Kuryakyn states the grips will not fit the Vision as the Vision (except the 8 Ball) typically has heated grips. So, for the chrome ISO's the part number is ........... ISO-Grips All Models (except Vision) #6235

Another otion is to use the universal grips but then you have to use your current throttle sleeve, which I hear is a pain in the azz.

I don't know anything about the Avon's.

Mark...you "should" be okay with any of the Avon grips I carry on my site and in stock. As long as it is not the heated version. You can easily take your throttle side grip off and measure the diameter of the bar. If your 7/8" or 1" diameter.....most metric push pull grips should work. While off....go ahead and measure legnth from switch housing to end of bar to be sure no cutting would be required.
The heated versions from Avon have not been tested on vision yet....at least not personally....so not a clear answer yet. If you are willing to volunteer your Vision as a test bike....I would be more then willing to give you a 10% discount on any pair of Avon's for a full review. Let me know.

You might try California sport touring.com,look under grip puppies. They are suppose to be easier to use the the grip and not feel so cramped on long rides. But they are hard to install from what I've read , but that said I'll be gettin a set before I head down to Florida for winter. Hope this helps.

THANKS RELIC123. I BOUGHT THE 6235's AND FINALLY GOT THEM ON. THEY DO HANG OVER THE END OF THE BAR ABOUT 1/2", BUT THEY COME WITH A SPACER. THEY FEEL GREAT, JUST LIKE THE ONES I HAD ON MY KINGPIN. I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE BAR END WEIGHTS, BUT THE DIFFERENCE IN WEIGHT BETWEEN THE STOCK GRIPS AND THE ISO's MAKE UP FOR IT. NOW I JUST HOPE THEY LAST AS LONG AS THE BIKE DOES. LOL SORRY NO PIC's YET. BY THE WAY I WAS AMAZED AT HOW GOOD THE GRIPS MATCH UP TO THE CHROME SWITCH CUBES. FLAULESS. P.S. THANKS FOR THE OFFER NOEMTZ.

Again, how difficult was it to get them wired up to the heating system?

Fist off they say they don't fit vision cause of the end cap. You have to leave that off.
When you go to heated grips just look at your wires you have now. Take the brown and blue off and replace with new wire. Your white plug is power so your going to be just fine.

Never buy universal grips!! You have to cut your throttle sleeve out of your grip and its sure hell you will go threw.

I DON'T HAVE HEAT WITH THE NEW GRIPS, BUT I DON'T NEED MUCH HEAT HERE IN FLORIDA. IT IS TRUE YOU CAN'T USE THE BAR END WEIGHTS, BUT YOU DON'T NEED THEM WITH THE ISO GRIPS. THE WEIGHT OF THE ISO GRIPS IS MORE THAN THE BAR END WEIGHTS. HOWEVER, THEY DO MAKE END WEIGHTS FOR THE ISO GRIPS THAT RUN ABOUT $40.00 IF YOU WANT THEM.

Okay, all. I am jumping on this thread instead of starting one of my own. If that's a problem, sorry.

My problem is that I have rather acidic body chemistry. The rubber on my grips melted a long time ago. Now that the winter is coming up again, I am thinking about new grips, too. Is there an all-metal grip out there that fits the Vision and is still heated?

I'd hate to pay a couple c-notes just to get something that will melt in 8 months.

I'm not following what you mean by replace with new wire? Are you suggesting that I can use my two position OEM switch to control the Avon grips, bypassing their 4 position heat controller altogether?

Ok, so I've got the clutch side grip off, and I'm trying to figure out how to get the throttle grip off. I know I have to take the bottom of the switch housing off, but the cruise control panel mounting bracket is in the way of at least one of the screws. But.. it appears that that bracket wraps all the way around the handlebar inside the switch housing, so it won't come off unless I take the switch housing off. I'm in catch 22 hell right now.... can someone explain exactly how to get that throttle grip off, and specifically how get to the screws to remove the bottom of the switch housing?

thanks!!!!

Get the ISO's that fit all Vic's except the Vision. That's what I have and they fit perfectly. The reason it says "except Vision" is that they are not heated like the majority of the Vision Grips (exception 8 Ball stock grips not heated)

Just installed the AVON heated grips on my bike and they are super comfortable and warm as hell.. Your only challenge will be using the AVON 4 stage switch. Wont work with stock Vic switch as its 2 stage. I had Ness mount mine on my dash. They cut out at hole towards the bottom of the dash and undermounted it. Looks clean and easy to get too..

Just my 2 cents.. Good luck...

I have these on my HD. You can't beat them. I'll be installing a pair on my Vision this spring. Saving the heating ones for winter.

I believe your are correct about the OEM rocker switch not being compatible with the Avon heated grips. In order for it to work, the resistance would have to be integrated into the switch, and I don't believe that the simple Vic toggle is anything more than a basic switch. Whereas the Avon 4 way switch must have the circuitry built in to vary the resistance.

That being said, I am still having issues getting enough slack in my pull cable (and throttle cable) to get it off the cam gear. I have the two adjusters turned all the way in, and still not enough slack. Then again, when they were adjusted in running configuration, they were only one or two turns out to begin with. I'm thinking I'll have to loosen the cable at the throttle body bracket..... oh well. I thought grip replacement was supposed to be a quick and easy project. This is turning out to be anything but. Then of course, will be the issue with mounting the new controller. I already have a powerlet plug in the bottom section of the console, so that's not an option. I'm thinking I'll just drill a couple holes in the side plastic skirt on the left side of the console and mount it there.

I can already tell though, that the Avons are a huge improvement over stock! Larger diameter, and a better grip pattern on the rubber portions. Also, the grip area is longer than stock, almost as long as the total length of the stock grips including the end weights.

Got any pics of grips/controller install?    You say warm as hell...is the high temp on the Avons similar to the Vics high???  Hotter, cooler???
Just looking for a baseline comparison to something the majority can relate to.

If you swap grip to a non-heated and want to retain the heat, just get a heated grip add on heater.  I put those on mine and they work great.  They're just heater strips mounted on a thin mylar base with some industrial adhesive.  Pull your old grips, put these on, install the new grips.  Works like a charm.  Hook up to the existing switch or add a switch from Vic if you didn't have one before.  Two hour job with many warm fingered results.

Took the new grips for a test ride yesterday. They feel great, being a larger diameter and better "grip" from the rubber surface they use. However, they don't get nearly as hot as the factory OEM grips did. I think I can live with this though, as I have heated gloves. From the few miles I rode in 38 degree temps, it seems that the highest setting might almost be as warm as the low setting of the original OEM's.

I did find out though that the supplied controller is meant to be mounted on 1" bars, and naturally my 2011 Vision has 1.25" bars (beyond the grip/perch area). I have since ordered directly from Heat Demon a 1.25" version of the controller. I have also ordered a ceramic 2.4ohm resistor that I am going to attempt to wire up to one side of the original rocker switch, so that maybe I can go back to using it for a high/low setting. If anyone is an electrical or wiring expert, and can give me some pointers on this, I would appreciate it.

Thanks.
