I just bought a 2008 Vision and I was smelling gas after the dealer filled it up. I had not noticed this on my test ride. Today i filled it back up and saw the lip has a bend in it (about 1/2" to 3/4" long) this is only the top of the lip it is not the neck where it connects to the tank not sure if it is whas been described here. It is just the contact face between the tank filler tube and the cap gasket. Anyhow, it looks like I could use some needle nose pliers and slowly try to bend it back up flush. If I do then the gasket will have something to seat on...

Anyone ever try that?

If not it looks like if you wanted to fix it you would need a new tank..... UGH

Thanks,
Bill

I tried to fix my tank, even made a special "brass dolly" for it with no luck. Send me a PM and I will let you know what I designed to replace the whole Victory cap. Have not had access to a lathe and and an TIG welder that has AC for welding aluminum. I am 90% sure this would fix the situation but do not have a prototype built to make sure. Right now I am using a flat gas cap with a .75 wide rubber gasket, I put this on and then have a rag folded up many times over the handle part of the top and then shut the door down on top of it. You cannot fill the tank but about 3/4 full or it leaks but it beats replacing the tank @ around $500 to $700 depending on which dealer you would go to. I was told by one dealer that this was not safe and I agree but riding a bike is not always safe. My guts and experience tell me this would work just fine and would be a classy upgrade for the stock stuff.

Ride hard, ride fast but above all ride safe and free.....

8-ball sent you a reply. I am thinking I will try to bend the lip up as flat as it will go. I would then take the cap to ACE hardware and see if I can find a large flat rubber gasket (thin) to take up the void. If that does not work I will buy the new design cap.
