Saturday I did something I haven't done in over a year. I was on my way home after running some errands and stopped at the bank for a minute. As I the bank is only a few blocks from home and I was in a hurry I didn't put my earplugs back in before putting my lid on.

I couldn't believe all the racket!. My Vision is all stock and smooth as a baby carriage, but my god, the noise. Slack adjuster noise, gear noise, E3 tire noise, banging in and out of gears.

Honestly, the only thing I can compare it to is when I was a kid I used to work on my uncle's dairy farm in the summer. And we used to bail hay with this old New Holland hay bailer that had a 4 cyl. Wisconsin engine on it. We used to crank up that old Wisconsin and throw the machinery in gear. Yep, now your talk'in Vision. Great memories, but I'll stick to my earplugs thanks.

I do hear you!!! 2011 VV always road with a 3/4 helmet. The vision was quite as could be. 3 weeks ago switched to a 1/2 helmet and holy S#*t ola the noise from the bike surprised me. I was wondering if it was falling about. Same sounds you heard. At the same time it reminded me of my KP that I missed with the loud pipes etc. Now I just put plugs in and all is better. When I go back to the 3/4 come the rain and cold it will be quite as every again.

I have a half helmet with zip in ear flaps. I just zipped it in so I could use a Sena SMH-10 with my helmet. I have to admit I like it despite it being much warmer. I can hear the radio better since there is no wind noise in my ears. Only downside is I seem to ride even faster without the wind noise

Hey if you want a quiet bike, buy a Goldwing or a new electric motorcycle.....I do agree that the Victory has a lot of mechanical noises from the motor, etc., but It is motorcycle and some do make noise.....Ear plugs do what they are made to do..cut down/out noise levels..If wearing them makes your ride better go for it...Some like the sounds, others do not...I have a hearing loss in my right ear and should wear plugs I suppose, and do on long rides, but I personally like the sounds of the Vision motor and enjoy my S1L1 pipes cruising along......Motor on so they say!!!!

I too always ride with ear plugs, and on those rare occasions when I ride without them, I am always startled by the noise. But then my Vision without ear plugs is still quieter than my Road King WITH ear plugs! And the Vision just keep on running beautifully, so I got no complaints.

I can't say that I've ever used ear plugs. Granted the Vision is a bit noisier than the Wing I once rode but after riding an open pipe HD it's nothing. And I so enjoy the way it rides.

I wasn't complaining, just stating an observation. With earplugs the Vision sounds like a fine engineered machine. And I most always use the earplugs anyway, just because it's recommended I do so. Besides, with earplugs I can hear my stock Vision radio clear as a bell, no amps, no special speakers, just earplugs.

A friend all ways rides with the stereo full blast. He didn't even hear the engine knocking. $2000 later he learned to not play the music so load.
Yes it was that other bike chain tenshiners went out

Just finished installing GlassPack mufflers and I found multiple benefits from that! 1.The background VV mechanical noise does decrease when you have a low (but pleasing) rumble form 106ci 2. Sounds awesome when you get on it. 3. Told by a HD diehard that sounds like a 103ci HD with Rhineheart's. 4. Looks better than stock and took about 10#'s off the bike. Finally, 5. I can still hear my IPOD clearly because the glasspacks are attention getting...but NOT obnoxious. You and everyone else is aware that it is a BIG V-twin hangin' down there. I have also noticed what seems like a better low end response....maybe my imagination??? Had a local muffler guy build them for me...I did the take off and take ons...hated pulling the side panels. I am really pleased with the end result and recommend it to anyone mechanically inclined. The exhaust is now sophisticated compared to the Vance and Hines on my Softail Deluxe... the V&H's are definetly LOUD! Love the VV
