Well I pulled the trigger and bought a Vision this weekend. I have been riding my 1300C VTX for a few years but wanted to upgrade.

I was worried about a few things like the weight of the MC when stopping in stop and go traffic. I like the MC better w/o the trunk and honestly I was shopping for a XC and was not in love with the looks of the Vision.

WELL..

I was sold when I drove it.

I saw this Steel Gray Vision Premium. It had a trunk but I knew I could remove it. I really liked the looks of this color and the price was sure good. It had lowers, CB and new tires. When researching Victory, a few things I liked about the Vision was the You Tube video showing the tip over protection and the moveable windshield.

I am not totally adjusted to the sloooow smooth stopping but I think that will come in short time. Was that your findings as well?

Anyhow, on my test ride it was just so clear that I have never ridden a MC of this caliber EVER. It is so balanced and limber on the highway.

I think I am really going to enjoy this MC. All the propaganda regarding the design and construction is no hype. That was obvious to me when I removed the trunk and saw the frame.

Anyhow, sure would like to hear your comments and what you all think about the learning curve regarding slow maneuvers/driving in stop and go traffic.

Bill

You made a good choice, and welcome. You will find almost any info you want here by doing a search. Slow speed handling is actually very good and will come with practice. I would strongly recommend the "Ride Like a Pro" DVD. It is well worth the time and money and will surely help you use your Vision to it's fullest. The front brake is not your friend at parking lot speeds, other than that the Vision is like a fine horse, give it it's head.

enjoy your new vision its all smiles from now on. Tip: becareful when coming to complete stop make sure your front end is straight they like to lean to the side when stopping. ( or the direction that you are turned.) it will feel like it is going over. How about putting where your from in your profile also.

One of the easier bikes to get used to riding either slow and or in stop and go traffic. Just time in the saddle is all you need. I'd suggest taking it up to a open parking lot, and get used to all of the maneuvers there, as well as getting used to the control placements. Enjoy the ride!

I finally bought an 08 in June and it is the best bike I have ever ridden in my 53 years of riding. I do not have the mentioned slow speed maneuvering problems, as a matter of fact the Vision is joy to ride in a parking lot.

Don, Looks like we was postin' at the same time. I agree the Original is the best. I figure that by the time I get 200,000 miles on her I will be ready for Lloyd to do an upgrade and then will be ready for the next 200,000.

Well thanks guys. I do have a great lady/wife to fill the back seat. Just I ride mostly to work. She loves that trunk so I may get very good at swapping it out... LOL

I need to do some searching here to find all I need regarding my first few questions. One question is on the air shock. If I set it at a lower PSI does that lower the MC when I sit on it? The other is the 3.5mm Jack for Ipod or MP3 player....... Wonder how you charge an Ipod on the 2008 Vision. I saw there are a lot of threads but I was a bit confused regarding how you connect and where. Also if I need to find/buy an old generation Ipod so it can/will charge off the Vision.... I don't have an Ipod so I am not too savy about them. I do have an MP3 though.

In order to fully use and charge an iPod, you need to purchase a different cable from Victory to replace the current cord.  The type of iPod that you do NOT want to use with the Vision is the one with an internal disc.  It will lock up and eventually grunch up the iPod (experience speaking here with my now defunct iPod classic). I currently use a 4th Generation iPod Nano and it works great.

You can use an iPod with the current cable, but it only serves as a speaker system for the iPod or MP3. The replacement cable allows you to charge your iPod and to control the songs you listen to.  You can switch playlists with the numbered buttons on the dash.  You can also go either one or ten songs forward or back or skip forward or back in the current song by using the handlebar control.

Be careful which cable you purchase, though.  Make sure it works with the '08.  Apple also changed their charging system in 09 or 10 and I had to buy a Scoshi adapter to go between the cable and iPod to make it charge.  No problem.

The iPod works great.  I really enjoy it while I ride.  Good luck!

I have been using my 160GB iPod classic while riding for the past 5 years and have not had a problem. I use a FM broadcast module hooked up in my trunk, the only problem is that I can't contol any of the functions, which is fine because I start it before I take off and just let her rip.

I *had* been doing that and just recently bought the IPOD cable.

Besides charging and control....the sound is immensely better, cleaner and louder.

HUGE difference.

Bill, congratulations on your Vision purchase.

Like you I also used to ride a VTX, albeit a 1800C, and you will find many other on this board that have also made the switch.

Perhaps back over at the VTXOA.com forums they ought to create a board for former VTX riders!

Welcome to the incredible feel of riding a vision! I myself have the 08 street premium and can not believe how it rides. Slow moving issues? I have experienced no issues at all when solo. With my significant other in the co pilots chair however, I have had it a little wobbly in the slow / start / stop type traffic. Really the only issue is that I have a short wheel base (5' 6") and find the passenger floor boards interfear with my ability to hit the ground as solidly as when they are folded up. A bit of coaching and now my wife will predict when I need it, and she will fold them up and put her feet back enough to be out of my legs striking distance and everything is now cool.
I have been riding since 1985 on many different styles of bikes, and seriously have never felt a better feeling bike.
