Posts: 63 Calgary, AB, | I've an '08 with about 6300 miles on it. Bought it with about 3800 a month ago, and have put on the other 2500, mostly on a trip this week past for about 1800 mi.
I noticed that in both right and left turns, at highway speed, there is a continual "moan" sound, which dissappears when I got straight again. Rode some curvy roads on the trip: I'd not noticed it before I lert.
Getting an overdue 5000 mile checkup at the dealership on Tuesday 23rd, but would appreciate any comments or suggestions that I can have them look for.
I had tire pressures right on 38/39-40 buy the way, single rider with an approx. 25 lb bag on the rear seat in partly loaded side bags and trunk.
Any suggestions welcomed, that I can guide the dealer's guy on or on other topics, things I should have them check on this low mileage '08? |

| It's the tires...you have enough miles on the E3s for them to start making noise in the turns. This is a common complaint about the stock tires and the more miles you put on them the louder it will get. |

Posts: 133 , AR United States | Yes, my tire(s) made noise long before they wore out. Inspect your tires closely, they wear faster for some people than others. The rear is not easy to see unless you get down low. I went in for a new rear tire at 12,300 miles, when they raised it on the lift we could see a lot of thread showing. I have read some have had to replace it at 8000 and some at 16000. Also low pressure in the rear shock is bad for the tire.

| BillyJoe....Noted your comment about rear shock pressure having wear effect on tire...What would you suggest for best tire wear..I ride only 1 up,no luggage, and mostly short rides..I weigh about 190lbs. Currently have 20psi in rear shock which was what dealer tech recommended....Thanks |

Ok, I may be getting out of my depth, but I read a post somewhere from KevinX that to low shock pressure can cause cupping on the rear tire. On page 162 of the manual there is a chart that shows pressures for 2 versions of the shock and for tour model with or without the trunk. Low suspension models would use 33 lbs. Tour model without trunk shows 10 lbs. Tour model with trunk shows shows 19. There should be a sticker in your side bag that shows how much you need for yours.

Another problem I have NEVER had with my '08 - nearing the install of my 3rd set of Dunlops. I am either Blessed, or my dealer does GOOD THINGS
I think - Dealer .... |

| About to change mine out at 11k. The bike had 5k when I bought it and the rear tire was cupped pretty bad. I have a few thousand left on the front but I'll change it anyway. |

Any less and it bottoms out on the great 'frost heaves' we have around here. Any more and it rides like a hay wagon.

Just changed both tires today at 14,400 miles. (leaving tomorrow on a very long trip)
The rear (according to the wear bars) had at least 1,000 more miles left in it.
Slightly flat-spotted but not complaining as I have spent a lot of time on freeways running to Key West and Nova Scotia.
The rear did not cup.
The front had 6-8 thousand more miles left in it.
The front had a high center section (I assume harder rubber in the center) and minimal cupping.
I run 38 PSI in the rear, 40 PSI on the front.
I keep 70 PSI in the shock. (almost MAX)
The front tire did sing in the twisties towards the end.
