You could always keep it as an excel document detailing everything you did. Just make sure you keep it backed up just in case.

Don't get me wrong not trying to be a dink. But if you have to show them that you did this and that something hand written I think would be better.
Go to a stationary store or just a good old fashion note book or maybe a office max something like that.
With a computer its easy to change date and modifie whats all ready down

Understand what you are saying, but in the long run they would still have to prove that you lied about it. As long as you have something you are doing more than most, no matter what format it's in.

I installed a free app from Allstate on my phone called Good Ride. It has a maintainance log feature. That was an extra perk. I got it to log rides. Also has state laws, gas atations and much more. As OCD as I am, I am terrible at keeping track of reciepts for oil and stuff. I end up writing the milage on it and losing it in the toolbox.

Has anyone who does/did their own services had to show a record when warranty work was needed? They would have to feel the damage was done by improper maintnance first. If your doing the maintnance as required yourself they should have no thoughts towards that to begin with. No problems with my bike so far, but I have had warranty work done on cars, some of wich never had regular maintnance, and they never asked for a record showing that I was doing it regularly.

I like the idea of a notebook, kinda like a diary. They have those hard back notebooks that just have lines in them. Put down your entry date at the beginning of each new entry and then you can put down your service notes or even just observations. This way you have plenty of room for more detail and the dates can also reference your receipts that you keep in a separate file. I think these can be pretty interesting even to go back through over the years if you are one to keep a bike for a long time. (Kind of like a "Captains Log"..... ;-)

I think this ultimately comes down to the dealer. If they are satisfied and the claim is legitimate I don't think it's any more complicated than that.

I think some dealers push it because they would prefer getting a steady flow of service business. This is a way of putting pressure on owners to just "bring their bike in to be safe". Over time I've read a number of side comments regarding this topic on other posts where they've just followed the practice of dealer service only, "just to be safe". I'll never buy that one. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with dealer service, I do take my bike in once in a while. But it has nothing to do with maintaining my warranty eligibility.

I guess what you use to record it isn't as important as the info yur logging in it. Date, miles who did the service and receipts of oil filter and oil. I did this with my 2008 and when I traded it in the dealer was very impressed he said. He said no one keeps records of their maintenance. He said it also helps prove the bike was taken care of.
