Posts: 337 san antonio, tx | Well, the salvage yard picked up my 2004 55000+ mile Kingpin a couple of days ago. Very sad day. I crashed it merging on to the I10 just north of San Antonio. A Septic Tank vacuum truck had spilled its load just in front of me on the on ramp. That sh*t was slippery! Bike was trashed, I got that stuff all over me, but it did keep me from getting much road rash! I went through it just like an old Slip & Slide my kids used to have!
I loved that Kingpin, but have been eyeballing either the X-Country or the Vision for some time now. Just couldn't make up my mind, and really had no reason to rush the decision.
Well, it looks like I'll now be picking up my new 2011 Silver and Black Vision in a couple of weeks and riding it from the Denver dealership back home to San Antonio. I have to be there on business anyway, and they are giving me a pretty good deal.
I can't wait!! |

| If you go with the lowers, make sure you do not ride the bike for at least 48 hours after installation...They will not adhere properly and you run the risk of them falling off along the road as many on the board have said..In Michigan we do not get that many hot days for me to spend the money...I do not personally like the looks of them and will probably not buy....But, those that have them seem to be happy with the air flow options...
Again, Good Luck |

Posts: 337 san antonio, tx | I'm not really sure, but I know it's too much! I'm getting a really good deal, much better than I can get anywhere around where I live. I just told them what I wanted, and they gave me their best "out the door" price. I haven't seen the itemized list. It's just much better than anyone else I've been able to find.
I looked at a few different makes and I just decided to go with the factory for simplicity sake. I'm picking it up in Denver and leaving for San Antonio the same day so I don't want to screw around with aftermarket stuff that I've not been able to put my hands on. |

Stupidly, I didn't call the police. I was pretty much OK, and would did not know the logo or anything about the vacuum truck. After we bent a bunch of stuff back to a somewhat useable condition, I was able to nurse it back home.
And yes, I've developed a whole new level of respect for those trucks. I always see the signs on the backs of those trucks saying "not responsible for windshield damage" when they haul rocks and stuff. I don't remember ever seeing a similar sign on one of those vacuum trucks though! |

I'm getting the IPod connector, probably wait on the pegs, put them on myself later. I had a beaded seat in my truck for a while, but my bony butt just never really liked it. I'm thinking maybe a sheepskin.
Here's my tentative route but I'm wide open for suggestions. Pretty much staying off the major roads until I hit Eastern New Mexico. A lot is going to depend on if I am by myself or two up. I'll probably leave around noon on a Friday and need to be back to work by Tuesday morning.

G-Force in Lakewood. So far, they've been great. I'm going to have a really hard time making it through my conference before I hit the road and bring it back to San Antonio.
Three days to get to Laredo, then just blast down the I10 to home. It's the only part of the ride I wish was not included. I hate that stretch. At least it has a decent speed limit. |

Yeah, so far I've been very happy with their service. Of course, I havent been there yet............ It's good to hear
it from another rider.
I haven't decided for sure which route I'm going to take once I get to the Taos area. The weather forecast in the Colorado mountains isn't looking as good as I had hoped for and if I have to ride in the rain, I might bypass some of the little twisty roads I really want to ride.
Rain will have the odd effect of actually causing me to make better time, screwing up my plan of using all 4.5 days I've budgeted to mosey my way back to San Antonio. |

Had a fantastic ride. Headed west out of Denver on 70 then: Leadville - Aspen - and spend the 1st night in Carbondale. (I did a lot of side road riding that day. don't know all the roads)
Day 2: Carbondale to Hotchkiss - took Hwy 52 across the dam, then headed to Montrose. Took the Million Dollar Hwy throught Silverton and Durango and stopped in Pagosa Springs.
Day 3: Pagosa Springs - Chama (very cool railroad museum)- Antonito - Taos (bought my sheepskin seatcover)- Eagle Nest - Cimarron - and took I85 into Las Vegas, NM for the night.
Day 4: from Las Vegas took Hwy 84 to Hwy 54 to Hwy 380 in to Ruidoso, then took 244 in to Cloudcroft. From there it was on to Carlsbad using Hwy 82 and Hwy 285 and spent the night there.
Day 5: Headed home. Took Hwy 285 to the I10, hit cruise control and that was that.
I took a lot of little side trips, stopped at anything I found remotely interesting, and basically took my own sweet time. When I was done, I wanted to turn around in the driveway and do it again in the other direction!
I tried to upload a few pics, but I can't for some reason or another.

Honestly, after riding it a bit, she doesn't really like it. Very disappointing for me as the biggest reason I got it was to get her riding with me more often. That darn lip on the back of the passenger seat is really stupid. The design is totally function AFTER form. She says the old Kingpin was much more comfortable.
I have the seat off now and I'm going to be doing some major surgery on it. |

For your tour pack, I ment...
Thanks for the offer but.... Naw, I need the tour pack. Even if I got rid of it, I'd still have the same problem with that lip on the back of the seat.
I'm just going to modify it. Since I'm going to have to cut the upholstery up to do what I want, I might just recover it in leather if I can find a decent price on some.
After studying the seat and pan, it's not as simple as just slicing off the lip. The pan rises up to meet it as well. I'm going to have to cut the back of the pan and fabricate some sort of extension.
Then I noticed that there are some little wings that stick up from the body panel that the seat pan rides up and over. My first instinct was to just cut them down, but I'm not going to, in case I or the next owner decide to go back to a stock seat. I'll figure something out.
I'll photograph and document the project. Probably start this weekend.

Posts: 373 Lansing, MI | Three years ago I was driving a '79 F-350 Crew Cab 4x4 with a 4" lift and 35" tires (big azz truck) I had bought in Laredo through S. A. I was in the far right lane of I-35 on the north side when the left front tire decided to depart from this world. The truck vered left across all four lanes of traffic and I manged to get it under control just before I smashed into a cement wall. I looked in the mirrors and saw cars scattered all across I-35 and clouds of tire smoke everywhere. How I didn't run over a few I'll never know... Yeah, that was wild. I thought S.A. looked like a decent place, for a big city. I'm red neck country boy and tend to stay away from cities. I never understoood why anyone would want to live like that but at the same time I'm glad they do because I like my country side with low population.
That's my one and only story or knowledge of S.A.
BTW, if you think S.A. is bad come on up to Detroit or Flint. SH!T HOLES! Hmmm, wonder why???
