Posts: 732 Western WA | Let me say that I ride in the Cascade mountains all the time. If any of you are familiar with the Puget Sound area of Washington, you'll know the roads around Mt. Rainier such as the road to Sunrise or Paradise. These roads are full of twists and switchbacks, with steep inclines requiring some fairly technical riding.
But the road I ran this week put them all to shame.
Hwy 36 from Red Bluff CA to Fortuna CA is 140 miles of continuous twisties, switchbacks, hairpins, decreasing radius corners, roller coaster dips and turns, and just plain amazing! Not kidding. I don't think there is a straight stretch from one end to the other.
It's truly a technically demanding route, and one that could bite you in the keester if you didn't stay on your toes every minute. Corners with the opposite camber are common.
It was so much fun that when we finished the ride, we turned around and rode it the other way.
If you ever get to the area, this is a ride you should take. I can't even begin to tell you how incredible the scenery is along this road.
I shot a little video on the GoPro that Ill try and post later this week.
After I recuperate. | |

Posts: 1359 New Bohemia, Va | Thanks for sharing this trip, if I ever get out that way, it sounds like a great road to roll. I rolled US 33/250 across West Virginia last year, and that was like 6 hours of 250 miles of switch backs. The only straight roads were in the few towns along the way. | |
