starting this Friday motorcycles will be able to run a redlight if:

You are first in line
Light has cycled twice
It has been 120 seconds
And you treat it as a Stop Sign stop.

I don't know if there is stipulations for more than one bike, but it sounds like each one would have to treat it the same.

The truth is, they are just making this legal, finally.

I wish they would do this in Texas. My Vic always triggers the light but my H-D rarely does.

I do not like waiting at stoplights for any length of time. I learned early on in a car that some lights won't change until the second car pulls up so I learned as a teenager to be the second car by backing up and pulling forward and works everytime. The same thing applies to motorcycles and even worse because there is not enough weight disturbance to make the light trigger. So I've attached a secret of mine that minimizes my wait time at a light. Perhaps you already knew this, but it is my experience so few people do. My wife still asks me "what are doing" when I start backing up to make the light trigger both in the car or on the bike. She still doesn't get.

Funny this comes up. Just the other day I was at a turn light and it changed from red to green arrow just fine. Never had that with my h-d I would sit threw till a car came up behind me.
For the law you just got we have had that for a good three years but I haven't meet another biker who does it. Were scared there might be a car we didn't see or worse now a cop can stop you now a DUI check. Don't need any part of that I have more time I can wait.

I did not know it was illegal to go through a red light in Texas that was ignoring me.....and it is.

18. Can I cross an intersection on a red light if my bike doesn't trigger the signal to change?

No, there are no provisions in Texas law that will allow any non-emergency vehicle to bypass a red light. You will need to turn or change lanes legally when safe then find another route. As stated in Texas Transportation Code (TRC) 544.0075 certain traffic-actuated electric traffic-control signals are required to be capable of registering the presence of a motorcycle.

Over at my work, there's one light that only checks for ONE car at the light (the lead car) and will NOT trigger with my bike. I sat there for two cycles with traffic building up behind me till I got off my bike and told the car behind me, "Listen. I know you're trying to give me room, and I appreciate it, but this light will NOT change until you pull up to the line so go ahead and pull right up to my bumper." They did, and it did.

I now take a DIFFERENT way home after too many cycles and no cars at times to set it off.

Alexi

PS - Would have ran the light, but it's on my military base and I don't want to deal with an MP.

I started ignoring RED lights that didn't turn green for me - at LEAST 30 years ago. Most of the newer sensors pick up even small bikes, but there are still a few 'bad' intersections around. So - I have driven thru THOUSANDS of RED lights over the years - and NEVER been ticketed. Why? Because - if I can SAFELY proceed thru a RED - that means there are NO COPS or other vehicles that impede my progress. Simple.
On our recent trip thru 5 western states to the Grand Canyon - I had to do this a few times - so there are still a lot of 'old' sensors buried in western roads. My rule? Wait ONE complete cycle - then fukit ....
