I'm looking for somebody who has extensive experience in working with carbon fiber. I'm looking to cover all the parts on the Vision that are now the brushed aluminum with carbon fiber.

Are you looking to have the parts re-created using carbon fiber, or just looking to get the carbon fiber look?

How long has anyone used the carbon fiber film on their bike? How does it hold up to the heat/cold? Looks sharp, I like the high gloss cf @ http://www.metrorestyling.com/3M-DI-NOC-Carbon-Fiber-Vinyl-s/4083.h... . How do they look ON the bike...any other pics?

If you read what they have to say it last for about 5 years in normal usage. Mine has been in the cold garage where it was 5 below and out in the sun when it was 102. It still looks the same as when I put it on. Its a easy proses putting it on clean with part with rubbing alcoholic have a heat gun and for big parts like the side panels have a buddy help.

About two years ago I had a experienced carbon guy (Jon @ Witchdoctor)try to do an overlay on the vision aluminum panels and it did not work well. The panels are actually powder coated and that needs to be stripped and the surface scratched up for adhesion. After the experiment we decided it was cost prohibitive to do this. Witchdoctor has a process where he can apply a coating that looks like carbon. Any color or version of carbon you can think of and it looks great, better than actual carbon due to the consistency of the process. He can apply this to just about anything, fork legs, panels, dash and so on. Since it is not a wrap the associated issues with a vinyl wrap are not there and it looks so good you will think it is a real carbon part.

The stuff John F is using is the best overlay I have seen, I am impressed and I have done my homework on this subject.

I'd recommend the tape approach. Having just ended four years of teaching Boeing new hires how to work with CFRP (Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic)
You need way too much specialized equipment to just do a few parts. It requires a constant heat source and vacuum bagging equipment to correctly draw the pre-preg resins through the mat, unused pre-preg mat must be kept @ zero f or colder when not being formed.
It's tricky to drill, loose strands can get in your arms and fingers and cause real serious pain and medical issues (if a strand gets into your finger, get it out NOW! or in couple of days you go to the emergency room and have your finger lanced to get the fiber out as it works in not out). It won't stand being 'pushed around' like aluminum will, and it's very expensive to purchase as Boeing is the major buyer of just about all the pre-preg mat that's available.
Go for the ease of the appearance, also, real CFRP resins are reactive to UVA and UVB and the finish will fuzz up, start to pop strands and silver/gray out very quickly. Boeing will not move a completed 787 from the assembly bay across the street to the paint shop during the daylight. and every exterior part of every 787 gets painted to protect the airframe from UV deterioration. (hint) CFRP can be sanded out, but only if you're good at getting a Berber carpet sanded smooth).

I see you did a very nice job of this on your center console. How hard did you find this stuff to work with?

Just getting the parts to look like carbon fiber and stand up to the elements.

All I did was clean the aluminum and with a heat gun applied the 3m carbon fiber vinyl. With heat it is very easy to work with and stick like a charm. Matter of faced it stick so good you'll get a little up set with it and your self.

I covered all my silver aluminum pcs with carbon fibre film 2.5 hrs ago. I'm in in Spirit Lake Ia where our temp ranges from 103 down to - 30 degrees. 3m film has held up fine. I love the look on my black bike. Install was easy, but it does take patience.

check your local vinyl shops, they usually have it in stock. I put some reflective silver 3M tape on the back at the base of the Vee on my vision.

I did my front panel and its great the bugs come off easy with a hot wet towel. Very easy yo do but you did two more hands doing that big of panel. I did the dash and when its 103 out the dash is not hot to the touch.
I cleaned the panels with rubbing alcoholic no sanding no nothing ells. I order the CF and it was at my door in three days. Heat gun credit card and some new razor blades. The 3m vinyl is great! here is where I order it from. Watch the how to videos it will help.

The material used in the pictures posted above is fantastic and easy to use, but before you go and commit to the product there is one MAJOR issue that everyone needs to be aware of going into this project: the product has extremely poor UV resistance and will degrade over time......now, living in the northern climates and not riding for half the year will help allow the material to last longer than the 4 years, but know going in that you will have to replace the product down the road. I REALLY wanted to put this on my bike, but living in Arizona and riding 10 months out of the year where we get almost 90% of all sunlight, this product would maybe last me 3 years max.

Also, know that the surfaces that lay upright facing the sun (like the panel above the headlight) will degrade much much faster that any of the areas that are on the horizontal plane.

Again, it is a great product, but the sun will slowly destroy it over time.....

Simple solution for sun. Topcoat with UV inhibiting clear coat, replace after 4 yrs, or let it go grey gracefully to match the hair on most of us that still have hair

That is awesome looking, was this stuff hard to work with. I'm a little gun shy about screwing it up.

Easy to work with. Just need a little patience and a good hair dryer. If I remember right, there ate grooves cut into the adhesive making it fairly easy to push any bubbles out.
