Today when taking off from a parking spot I plowed into a 3' cement pole. Broke front right side Lower, but worse yet it tore a hole where the upper part of the Lower attaches. About a 1" hole clean through.

The questions are:
Can I fill it with bondo (or other material), then reattach my Lower mount right to the material? Maybe sand/prime, but no paint?
I'm thinking the mount will cover the damage, but will it be strong enough to handle the intense force once the lower is back in place?
And will the 3M tape I read about hold to the material as well as the original painted surface?

Lastly, I am sorely tempted to get replacement Lowers from Cyclops, but need to ask first - Anyone have any of the original/stock Lowers they would like to get rid of? Just the lowers; don't need the mounting hardware.

I have fixed plastic like this with pretty good success. I would use Fiber glass and epoxy resin. When its done it is strong as can be and then a little bondo and sanding and it will disappear under the new paint. Good luck!

There are two part glues out there for body shops that I know we use for body repair that is what I would use. It is a lot cleaner then fiber glass and sands the same. The one we use is called T21 it says it is made for bumper repair.

Go to ebay there was some panels there just yesterday. All car bumpers and some lower body work is plastick and the body shops have a special plastic welder it will look like new when there done.

When my bike jumped off the bike lift there was all kinds of damage to the plastic. the dealer sent out many panels to the body shop. the fix they do is like fixing the plastic bumper covers on your car. they came back fixed just fine however the dealer told me you have to buy the paint from victory due to they have not released the paint # so the body shop cant even go to the sherwin williams or ditzler paint books and get the number due to it wont be in there so the paint has to come from victory which is no big deal. pull the panel and take it to tthe body shop Eric

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I will pull it and take it to a body shop as Eric suggested. I am flying to Seattle next month, so will pull just before I go and maybe it will be fixed by the time I get back. Hopefully I won't have to worry about paint as the mounting hardware should cover the damaged area, but will have to wait and see on that one.

Buy the ones from CycleOps and dont replace the original with factory. If you had CycleOps lowers on it when you hit the post ... you would still have a lower to re-attach with only a little touch up paint.

Boots,

Here are two different methods for repairing your fairing, I prefer the plastic repair rather than the cement.

 http://plasti-mend.com/products.aspx

 http://fairingfix.com/

If you are handy at all it is not hard to do and a lot less expensive.

Thanks, Rusty. I decided to make an insurance claim. Little scratch on saddle bags and other minor things added up to over $2k!

I did ask for the parts back, so may try to fix bad panel for next time
