Posts: 208 Wichita, Kansas | I've never been much for reading the manual first, so when I bought the SilverStar bulbs for my Vette for better road lighting, imagine my surprise when I actually read the back of the package. See below, they guarantee high performance and shorter life. No wonder they problems in a VV. They guarantee the life will be 12 months if you still have the receipt. But then, they don't have to change the bulbs in a Vision!!

| Funny just yesterday I was thinking of these bulbs for some reason. I can't imagine paying that much money for something that lasts that short of time.
I can remember driving my '49 Buick with it's 6 volt headlights and how much better 12 volt was then halogen and then HID. I don't think I need better than halogen unless the HID comes with whatever I buy. I only use the HID on Anny at night and it keeps working.
I have halogen in my '60 Ranchero and they are sweet. |

Posts: 208 Wichita, Kansas | Nope. As an electrical engineer I am familiar with the realities of power devices. However, during the three years I have been following this board, the subject of SilverStars has come up several times. This was merely intended to answer a question that has been asked several times with no previously noted definitive answer. The Sylvania statement pretty well answers the questions which have been previously asked. |

Posts: 69 AZ | Guess I'm just "lucky" then with my Wal Mart purchased SilverStars...
2006 HD Street Glide - 3.5 years/30k miles and still burning bright when I traded it in last year.
2006 Honda Gold Wing - 4.5 years/32k miles and still burning bright.
2009 VV - 14 months/6.5k miles and still burning bright.
Of course, now that I've written the above one (or more) will burn out on me next month

Posts: 208 Wichita, Kansas | I've never had any trouble either, and used them in my '02 Mean Streak, my 02 Voyager XII and several cars. But a lot of people were asking if they were a good choice for Visions and I had never bothered to read the package before. I replaced both of the stockers in my '08 Vision, and because of the hassle to get to them, I went with PIAA heavy duties. Supposed to be just as bright but built for rough service. I didn't gain any output, but the Vision is plenty bright stock. Sure, I'd like more light and I like the Siverstars, but the difficulty in changing bulbs makes this a different game. Hopefully I won't lose one on a trip or when it will be a real PITA to change it out because I don't have any other reason for going in there. |
