personally, I stay well hydrated so I can extinguish on demand.
I asked the question because I was sitting here listening to Stevie Nicks and her hot new album and the thought popped in my mind. I figure there are those who do carry, and have them handy. I thought about getting one, just in case someone else needs it. |

| Let it burn as long as no one is hurt. How many fires do you hear about with motorcycles? Most I heard about is the owner did not reinstall something in the fuel system correctly. |

Posts: 741 Central New York | I have a "Street" Vision, and I side bags is full of essentials like shock pump, documents, spare ear plugs, rain gear, etc. This leaves only one side bag which often has something "trip" related it is. Don't know where I'd put one if so inclined. Certainly wouldn't want it hanging exposed anywhere. |

Posts: 1359 New Bohemia, Va | This is another of those, should I or shouldn't I, that can be a "I wish I did." IF I carry an extinguisher, I want it to be 1) readily accessible, 2) hidden, 3) protected. It doesn't leave many options, and the OEM doesn't take in any consideration for one. As I said, it will only be appreciated when you need it, if ever, much like a first aid kit like I carry. Depends on your mindset and in all honesty it is not for your bike, but for someone else, in a car, truck or another bike. If you're conscience enough to carry an extinguisher, your consciense enough to take care of your stuff. Not that it would have made any difference in either case, in the last six months I've seen 2 car fires on the side of the interstate, one being a pick-up fully involved on a side ramp, man what a show.
Apparently this is the first time the topic has been breached and it is obvious that not many, if any has taken thought to it. I think I've got my answer.
Happy Motoring! |

Posts: 849 , FL United States | I went on a LONG poker run one afternoon and riding with about 400 other bikes (mostly from the Motor Co) I actually put the extinguisher from my RV in the right saddlebag (my SO didn't go on this ride so I had the room on "her" side). I didn't need it but it was nice to know it was there if someone else did. |

Posts: 172 Prescott, Az | This one blew up on impact. A fire extinguisher on this bike would have been useless as it was instantly fully engaged and the rider was 10 feet away also on fire. Insure your bike and if it catches fire just let it burn. This fire was, I think, an anomoly. If more explode in the future then I will get an XC. The rider of this bike is a member of my club and he is still fighting for his life in a burn center. Part of the charity $$ from the VMC National Meet, which my club is hosting, will go to Colin and his family.
Anyone wishing to donate to help Colin, please PM me.

Posts: 562 SC, Bluffton | Wow, I didn't know about Colin until this thread.
It almost makes you want to ride around on a quarter tank of fuel only?
I love the Vision and hope this was just a freaky thing that will happen to no one again.

What's that got to do with the terrible burning of of this bike and my club member? This accident happened in April when we are in the 60's & 70's. Summer months are 80's & 90's and on some days, like today, it's 98. |

Posts: 444 Bay of Gigs, WA | Sorry. I hadn't read effectively that there was an impact. It was a lame attempt at humor if it was so hot it just burst into flames, like an old Pinto. Hope your colleague gets better. Didn't mean to offend. |

Posts: 444 Bay of Gigs, WA | With two fuel tanks right up front connected by a flexible fuel hose, it might not be that much of a stretch to consider the Vision could be susceptible to self immolation. It also appears from the photo that the little SUV may have turned right in front of him, the most common sort of collision. I'm sure the cage driver didn't see him and so is totally innocent in the eyes of the law. |

I agree. The fuel tanks are in front and above the battery. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. I hear the young girl driving the SUV is devastated by this accident. She was not on the phone or texting and I hear she is an exemplory person. Rumors abound as to fault. |
