I have broken the glass filled nylon support bracket where the rear view mirrors attached to and where 2 round rubber grommets are inserted that work to attach the V shaped Fairing Access Cover.  Last time I went to install this cover, the material around the grommet holes busted out causing the grommet to break free. Now my studs on the access cover have nothing to snap in to secure.

About 1 year ago, 1 of them broke, but since there are two on each side, the cover was still secure.  Just before a big ride a few weeks ago, the other side busted out both.  The material here looks awfully brittle.  I was able to apply some JB Weld around the grommet holes to get me through my trip, but now I need it fixed right.

Here's my issue.  I requested my dealer to check inventory of these parts and to secure approval to get repaired under the 5 year extended warranty I got when I bought my bike.  It has been a month, and despite numerous calls I still don't have any answers on getting this fixed.

  • Anyone have this happen on your bike and if so, was this covered under warranty?
  • Is this unusual to take this long for the dealer to get a straight answer from warranty company?  Can't tell if the delay is my dealer's fault or warranty company.
  • Any creative ways of getting this fixed DIY in case warranty doesn't come through?  I thought about making a flat steel part with holes drilled in same orientation and screwing it to the bracket.
Any thoughts, feedback, advice is appreciated!

I may be wrong (often am) but I believe the extended warranty only covers parts that are lubricated (oiled) such as: motor, transmission, etc

Yeah, they are less than forthcoming on their extended warranty information. I did find this article put out by Victory that basically states the following:

"The limited time offer and transferable warranty program is valid for any new and unregistered Victory Motorcycle, and is a full-coverage program inclusive of the whole motorcycle."

http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/604/2429/Motorcycle-Article/Victory-M...

Given that this is not a wear and tear item, I'd think that it is a "no brainer" to be included. Don't think Victory wants us driving around with duct tape securing a body panel . . . heck, I'd expect that from HD, but not Victory. I also used to work in automotive plastics injection . . . this type of brittleness can only be caused by improper moisture and heat during the molding process. Clearly a defect, but getting someone to admit that can be frustrating.

I bought a leather Victory seat just before the AVR last year.  When Lloyd's guys started taking the bike apart to do the cams, they removed the seat and said "Whoa!  What happened here?"  The front of the seat (on both sides where it splits around the console access panel) had been pushing down on the very ends of the side panels ( the rear-most points) and cracked them.  The cracks weren't there prior to the leather seat swap because my dealer swapped the seats and would have noticed them immediately.

When I got home from the AVR I went straight to the dealer and showed them what we found.  They checked the fitment of the seat and took pictures and I ended up getting two new side panels plus another leather seat.  They put 1/8th inch shims under the the front of the new seat just to be safe.

Bottom line, except for legitimate wear items, if it breaks under warranty it should be replaced.  A panel/attachment point is not a wear item.
