After talking with a couple of other riders and a tech from a company that supplies the Kuryakyn 4710 module that converts the trunk lights to run/turn/stop lights, I decided to go ahead and install the module ANYWAY. Guess what... it DOES work and my trunk lights now do more than just sit there and glow. They now do what they should have done coming from the factory... they interact with your driving intentions to give added warning to those around you. If you are going to make a turn, they signal that turn... if you are going to stop and apply your brakes they flash 4 times and then glow red. One can only imagine a perfect world where the manufacturers of these machines cared enough about safety to add such a simple solution from the git go at the factory.

Did the same mod to my Vision a year or so ago...FOund out from other riders that the incandescent lights wash out in the sunlight....So I bought 2 sets of 33 LED lights and 1 set of 24 LED lights and wired them in parallel to the trunk lights...Now people who ride with me, says they can tell when I'm hitting my backs from a mile away...OK but one buddy did say that...The LED's have really helped!!

I've been thinking about doing this and a third tail light. I've got an 08 VV. Not to change the subject but isn't 495
kind of high for a Loydz ECM?

Yes, it is, but that's not the price. To have yours reprogrammed or using an exchange, it's $225 for an '08, less for an older bike.
Might be $495 if you buy a new one outright, but I don't think he even sells them that way. To the best of my knowlege all that he sells is the reprogramming, not the modules.

Thanks, I think I'll wait until winter and send mine in. 225 is a bit easier on the wallet lol.

I'm almost positive that the $495 includes the core charge. What I did was order the reprogrammed ECU and paid via credit card at the full price. Shortly after sending my original core back to Lloydz, they credited my account for the core charge. The only additional cost involved above the price of the reprogramming was the second shipping cost to ship my core back. No waiting and no down time that way. Just let Bri know that you'll be sending your core back when you order, and she'll be looking for it and credit your account when she gets it.

There's actually an individual selling one for 495 and thats the one I was referring to. Not sure you could get a core refund.

I don't think we realized you were talking about an individual selling an ECU. My mistake.
Lloydz can fix you up for half that price, unless you were concerned with keeping your totally stock ECU for some reason.

I put a red LED string in the center, tied to the brake light, and amber LED strings for turn signals on either side. I just put them in the gap between the trunk lid and the base, following the instructions in the tech section for the 99 LED MOABL. They really help the rear lighting of the bike. I did not use the 4710 controller, so mine are only lit when the brakes or turns signals are operating. It would be really easy to add the 4710 controller if you want them to also act as running lights. I used the Stingerz LEDs. They've been working great for a couple of years now.

On the Kuryakyn 4710 module, are you buying the Metric one? or does it matter?

I hooked up my rear brake and turn signals the same way as Ronnie above...with the center red LED for brake and 2 amber strings for turn signals with no 4710 controller. I actually like this hookup better than the 4710 controller, because you don't see the LEDs until you hit the brake or turn signals which I think make them more noticeable. Also since the Vision already has the trunk lights up high that function as running lights, I didn't see the need to have the LEDs also functioning as running lights - and you now have running, brake and turn signals up high where they are easily seen by cagers.

Just another option that doesn't require the use of the 4710 controller.
