Posts: 562 SC, Bluffton | For the few that have stated their fuel pumps went bad, what where the signs?
I ask because of this. About 2 weeks ago, I rolled the Vision out of the garage
into the driveway. I must have driven home just above the low fuel warning.
I fired up the vision, and was having my morning cigarette, putting on the
jacket, gloves, etc.. The bike died. I went to look and saw the gauge on E.
I sat on the Vision, and leaned it to the right side. The gas gauge went to about
1/6 a tank.
Riding to a gas station a few miles away, the Vision acted like it was going to die
again, but it didn't. I fueled up, but all wasn't good. It surges when riding at a
steady speed. It used to only do this (from day 1) riding slow in 1st-2nd gear.
Now riding in 4th at a steady 2,600 RPM, it is as though 100% of everything
stops for a 1/2 second, and then everything is great again.
Thinking I might have gotten some bad gas, I took a 5 gallon gas can to the gas
station. I added 5 oz. of the Star Tron gas treatment for Ethanol gas.

I have burned about 1/2 of that tank now, and I am still getting the occasional
stutter when cruising at a steady speed.
When accelerating, there is Never a hiccup. Slow accelerating, regular, fast, I don't
experience the problem.
The ONLY mods done to this Vision were a Lloyd's intake plate was added last
fall for no reason other than, well I can't say? I just did it.
Thank you for replies-thoughts. I have NO local dealership. It closed over a
year ago in the cruddy economy.

| you could get a hold of your deal and ask him if he can do ore you could do a fuel pressure test. I am sure that there is away to test the pump before pulling.
Good Luck | |

fuel pressure test is the easiest thing to do and will rule out or identify the pump as the problem. Info in the service manual will tell you how to test.

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | i thought i read a few other times you ran your vision so low it didnt want to start before? if so could this cause fuel pump problems? Runs hot/dry? i think you should get it pressure tested. I try to Never run my tank that low!

Posts: 562 SC, Bluffton | Well, my latest symptom is this. When I let off the gas, the Vision stills wants to go some.
I roll the throttle off all the way and apply the brakes. Then the bike starts to go to normal
idle. Any ideas? With the local dealership closed, it is time to start making long distance
calls, and I dream of a same day service. I would like the Dealership to have parts handy.
Thanks, Herb | |
