I tried the thread where I mentioned I went back to the Rotella 5w40 from the AMSOIL 0w40. I believe I mentioned it was a little noisier with the 5w40 this time for some reason. I rode it hard to SC and returned and have about 2,000 miles on this oil and a little rattle. The wife and I went for a little lunch trip and we had to climb a few hills. So two up, busting up hills doing 60+ mph the engine was rattling pretty heavy. Then it dawned on me, could it be possible, that maybe, just maybe the oil is a little low. Naw, I know I put 4 1/2 quarts in, and I NEVER check it, just my bag on how I do it. Sooooooo, I decided to check the oil in hopes that is all that it is and my motor is not about to blow. Yep, there it was, just a hair above the add mark. Okay, off the wally-world we went, and I put in about 3/4 of the quart and fired that mutha up and guess what? She quieted right down.

Thought I'd share as I do not check my oil because me lady will let me know when she needs something.

About to put Rotella in mine too. Hopefully I can get it right and no rattle. Thanks for the heads up!

I can see why the oil was a little low after I reread this original post, I'm missing words, so it's no surprise to me that I was almost a quart low...and in my mind also.

Update, it does make all the difference with that little bit of oil. Yesterday's ride was great with no concerns, because that would have been my quickest oil change if it was to have kept rattling and wasn't low. I guess I'll start checking my oil after each change just to be sure...I think my part-thiemers is turning into all-thiemers.

I agree that the engine complains when the oil gets close to the low mark on the dipstick.

Just went the Rotella route, as the dealers 50 miles away. Seems okay so far.
