 Hey All

I have about 11,900 miles on my set of E3s. I just measured measured the tread depth and got the following

Front - 2 mm

Rear - 3 mm

I am wondering if anyone knows what the tread depth is on new E3s?

I am taking a trip to Alaska in July and will probably put on another 600-1000 miles prior to leaving. I am trying to decide whether or not to change out the tires prior of when I get back? I am not real keen on changing them at the dealership in Anchorage as they only just became a Victory dealer and I am guessing do not have alot of experience with Visions. Not to mention that I will pay about an extra $120 just for the tires.

What would you do?

Thanks

I would have new tires on before I leave... I've averaged 12,000 miles on each of my first three rear tires.

awesome on the Alaska trip. I will be doing the same next summer. my trip will be 13,000 miles round trip. Just for that trip I will be going darkside for the mileage, dont want to have to wrry about a mid ride tire change. My front tire usually makes it to 15k so I should be all set. Since the majority of the ride will be highway and very little technical riding I figure it will be a good time to try out the car tire, the CT will also help me with the gravel roads and poor conditions on the north part of the Al-Can i fully expect to go back to the motorcycle tire when I return, the way I like to ride just doesnt seem to wrk with a CT

Alaska's a big state, how far in are you going? I don't see your location in your profile, how far away are you to begin with? From anywhere in the lower 48 to the closest point in Alaska is already 1000+ miles. With poor road conditions on the AlCan, I wouldn't dream of riding a tire thats on it's last legs just to use up 10% more of the rubber. What will that save you, $60 total? If that $60 is that important, then a trip to Alaska may not be the right trip.

Our route is about 7500 kms (4660 miles). I am leaving from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. Our route will take us up the alcan to fairbanks and anchorage. Then on the return we will be taking the hwy 37 (stewart-cassar) to Prince Rupert and then back to the island by ferry from there. So I guess about 9300 miles round trip.

the Ferry will knock off a lot of miles for you, but id start out with new rubbers before you go. you are looking at a 8000 miles trip, but its not on the best of road surfaces. cant wait to hear how it goes. My trip will take me from Marietta Georgia to Prudo Bay, one guy going with me is riding 800 miles out of his way to start in Key West....more power to him!

I wouldn't think twice about it if it were me...I'd be getting new tires prior to the trip. Get them now and you will have a few miles on them before you leave, nothing wrong with that either. I just replaced both Front and Rear E3's with between 10-11k on them. I decided to try the Metzler ME 880 Marathon this go around. I have put about 500 miles on them so far and like them real well. Not sure I have enough mileage to compare to the previous E3s but I do like them.

Enjoy the trip to Alaska...ride safe!

Btw...I meant to let you know the new Metzlers have about 7mm of tread.

I get more mileage on the E3's than average. I always use Ride-On TPS in the tires and I believe it helps with the mileage. TPS is a sealer balancer.

Hmmmm. TPS, never heard of it...just looked it up. Interesting. Seems like a reasonable investment. Might have to give this stuff a go. Thanks for making the comment relative to longer tire wear.
