Let me know when you want to hit Tellico Plains and rip up the Cherahola skyway....best road in my opinion. I live 2:15 south and try to ride up there every chance I get!

Sweet. I am used to riding flat lands. Florida is a swamp. It will take some time to get used to mountain riding, I think, but I am looking forward to it.

you are close to bike mecca. the Blue Ridge Parkway and Cherahola are awesome motorcycle roads. the BRP+skyline drive is over 600 miles of perfection. I am sure you will want to hit the dragon, everyone has to do it once, but it is a real letdown compaired to the cherahola. enjoy!

It will be sometime in May before I am actually up there. And then I have to go through Hillbilly orientation.

Be easy on the Dragon, it bites! And the Blount Co cops don't mess around. Blount fire and the volunteer rescue squad has a 1 hour response time. My little brother is a volunteer. Ya'll are correct about the pronounceiation. I grew up there and it is beutiful.

You guys are making me homesick! If I start singing the Frosty Morn jingle I swear I'm coming after you!

I had to order 4 lbs of country ham from Clifty Farms, just to restore my psychic balance.

second that.  I'm from NJ, but road to TN to ride Dragon, which was cool, but Cherahola Skyway was much better!  It's a definite must!

God bless... ever see the old TV show "Green Acres"? I think it was based on that part of the world. I'm actually jealous because of the rural quality of life but it will be a big change from Jacksonville, prepare for culture shock. The good news is the riding. The "Devil's Triangle" is right there. The "Dragon" and "Cherahola Skyway" are a couple hours away. Take Highway 52 west through Celina and over to Red Boiling Springs and see "Cyclemo's" Motorcycle Museum. Dale Hollow lake is a few minutes away and has the best Smallmouth Bass fishing in the country and don't tell my homies from MN but it has some great Walleye fishing too... you may be tempted to trade your bike for a boat... Unfortunately you're an hour from the nearest Starbucks actually the only Starbucks within 100 miles is in Cookeville. I live in Springfield, TN and ride through your area on the way to the mountains. Around Nashville there are some "pretty" roads like the Natchez Trace Pkwy but I found out "pretty" is code for flat and boring. You know the more I type the more jealous I get living near Nashville is getting old and Livingston is sounding better by the minute... Hmmmm...I'd be 2 hours closer to the Dragon... Hey what kind of work are you in and are they hiring?

Thanks for the tips. I will be staying with my sister in Cookeville when I first get up there, then moving to Livingston after about a month. Livingston is where my Mom was born, and why the migration north. I agree with livingston area being great riding.

As far as work, my wife and I are both retired military. We have been on staff at a church here in Jacksonville for the last 10 years or so. I do Communications (computer support, networks, web services, video and sound). Don't know what kind of work I may or may not get into, we are open on that front. But I do plan to wear out a few sets of tires in short order.

Check out this link please keep in mind what group help set up the rides when you see the length of the rides. Most Vision riders would have to ride two of these trips to make it a good day.

Wow. Impressive work done by the Johnson City folks... other communities should take note and work to attract we the riders who spend the money!!! (Unlike Myrtle Beach that spends money to scare us and our money elsewhere...) Having lived in Elizabethton for a few years I can tell you there are a lot of great roads in that area...

It's the height of a piggie's ambition, man!

If you do get together, maybe the grand reopening of Popes Cafe on the square in Shelbyville would be a good destination.

Cant get real food off my mind this week.

It just occurred to me 2011 should be another re-emergence of the 13 year cicadas , since the last time was in 1998. Now thats some FUN motorcycling right there!

That sounds like a plan, we have been to a lot of places to eat. The Loveless in Nashville, Papa Kay Joes in Centerville, Boyetts in Reelfoot, The Commissary in Germantown, all kinds of places.

Wow. Not even in the state yet and it feels like I am being accepted into a new community. We are spending all of our time packing right now. I am antsy to get up there and ride.

My mother is from Livingston, grew up on frogtown mountain. I spent every Summer there as a kid. I am really looking forward to spending my days as a tennessean. My favorite song is Rocky Top, learned to pick it when I was 12 yrs old. The people are friendly, the pace is slower. Just what we all need. A little more time to enjoy life, family and friends.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

John, I've got an extra bedroom and room in a double garage next to my Vision just a "little piece" north of Nashville. I asked someone from over in Smith County how far a "little piece" was and he actually meant it when he said, "A little bit less than a "piece""... gotta love this place! "If that don't beat anythin' I ever did even see..."

I have a sis, bro and mom & dad in Knoxville; love that part of the country, and the people. We pretend to be pretty hospitable in Utah, but southern hospitality is alive and well(and has always been!!) in Tennessee. You're gonna love it!
