Posts: 447 Northeastern Penna. | At 12,500 mi. I'm in need of a new rear tire on my 08. I've checked some of the posts on rear tire replacement.
Is it just a matter of opinion or is there one tried and true great tire over the stock E3 Dunlop that comes with the Vision ?
I've have done some research on tires to use- Bridgetone Excedra, Avon Cobra and Metzeler ME 880.
One thing about the Dunlop that I have noticed is the howling sound that comes from it after you have reached several thous. miles.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ! |

Posts: 324 New Orleans, La, | I've tried the Dnlop E3's, Avon Cobras, and currently Bridgestone Excedras. The D 3s cupped badly and were noisy mid way through the service life. The Avons stuck like glue and are the best rain tyres I've ever ridden on. I had a hard time with the handling but that was due to fitting an over sized rear tyre, a 70 series as opposed to the recommended 60 series. Never put a 70 on a VV rear you'll be sorry. The Stones front tyre contact patch is very narrow giving the bike very light steering at low speeds but twitchy and less stable at high speeds, read as paralegal speeds. I find them less confidence inspring handling wise because of the aforemention narrow contact patch in the wet when turning. At legal speeds in the dry they carve up twisties like a sport bike tyre. |

Posts: 1359 New Bohemia, Va | I have found that the stock E3s are by far the best after reading on the experiences of others on different tires. I find no need to change. Sometime you'll find cuppage, but if you maintain your tires daily with 41psi you'll find you'll get the max mileage and performance out of them. They do growl in a turn and I like to use that as to gage how much I'm getting into it, the louder the growl, the bigger the smile.... |

Posts: 1117 Northeast Ohio | wjoel, it is normal for the E3s. I do a lot of 2-up riding and was concerned with the weight rating on the bike. If you ride like me, please note that besides going darkside, there isn't another tire in our size for the recommended Gross Axle Weight Rating. | To help stop cupping on the rear tire put more air in your shock.
If you can feel the back end squat when you leave a stop light add air. If you back end squats down at any time to much your leaving tire rubber behind. |

Posts: 466 Grand Cane, LA | One tire you might look at is the Dunlop American Elite. I myself went Darkside, but I heard good things about this tire from some of my Harley buddies. It actually is a belted bias tire and has an 81H rating. It only comes in a 180/65B-16 so it is about 3/4" taller than the Elite 3, which translate to about 2 miles per hour difference in your speedo reading. They say it will last as long or longer than the Elite 3 mileage wise. |

I've worn out 3 rears and every one cupped some and howled some but only when getting close to the end... maybe last 2-3K.. which is when I buy a new one. Then depending on upcoming trips or if I'm staying near home I just make the best of it until it's time to change. I ride 2 up a lot and loaded heavy most of the time. All I have is confidence in the E3!! Just put on new front and rear over the winter and made 1000 miles in 4 days over spring break... very sweet riding on new tires. |

According to ALL motorcycle manufacturers you should never mount bias ply tires on a motorcycle designed to run radial tires and you should never run radial tires on a motorcycle designed to run bias ply tires. I have often asked how the hell you can design a vehicle to run one or the other and I have never been able to get a straight answer. I do know one thing for sure though after talking to many factory tire reps, ABSOLUTELY NEVER RUN ONE TIRE AS BIAS PLY AND ONE AS A RADIAL, this will lead to handling that could lead to an accident due to the ways the different types of tires flex under load. This is also the reason Dunlop makes the E3 in both a radial and a bias ply in order to supply riders of the GL1500 (bias ply) and GL1800 (radial) Goldwings.

How have the Dyna Beads worked for you? I have read a lot about them, both good and bad and would like an honest answer since I want to give them a for my upcoming tire change.

Posts: 101 Springfield, TN | I've had the beads in every tire after the factory mount on my '08 Vision. My first tire cupped and wore worse with factory balancing and weights than the two I wore out after that one. I will use them as long as I can get them... you don't need to worry about a weight coming off or anything changing. The beads automatically adjust as your tire changes. I can't say enough good about my experience. Hope this helps. |

Posts: 395 Moravia, IA | Im also a big fan of the beads. I use airsoft pellets instead though. Cheaper and you can get them at WalMart.....work the same. You cant get them inside the tire thru the stem so you have to break a bead.....but if your changing your tires anyways, no biggie.
Ive pulled them out of a car tire mounted on my Vision at 25K miles and yes they held up fine, looked great. |

Ok, I just bought an Elite 3 Dunlop front tire from a friend of mine, and was going to puchase a darkside Bridgestone Potenza G019, but found out they are only Radial, and of course, the tire I bought is Bias.
Any suggestions on a good, stable Darkside Bias tire?

No car tires on the front.
Actually running a REAR motorcycle tire on the front is usually considered being "double dark".
I do that.....running an Avon rear tire on the front......along with the Bridgestone car tire on the rear. Works great. |

| Since I have an extra set of wheels I thought I would give the Shinko 757 Journey tires a try. Most of the reviews are good and for a try at a different tire brand you can't beat the price ($244.98 for a set with free shipping). There are reports over on the GL1800 Riders forum of people getting over 15K miles on a set of these so I can't wait to see how they perform. ??? I'm at a loss to understand why a rear tire on the front would make a difference. I mean, if you're going to leave a bike tire on, why a rear and not just another front? I just don't get it, but then, I've only had one cup of Joe this morning...
