I'm planning a trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway in June. I've road part of it from Ashville NC to Roanoke VA before but now I plan to go all the way up to Skyline Drive up to Front Royal. We plan on leaving Kansas City Mo. and heading south thru Arkansas and down by the gulf coast and across over into Florida then up to the BRP. We are take 2 weeks off to make the trip. I know it will not take us that long but once we get to Front Royal we will probely have a couple of extra days to ride. I would like to hear so suggestions about where we could go from there or things we should take the time stop and smell the roses as they say on the way there.
Can't wait til June come on summer.

awesome, BRP is my favorite road. cant go wrong. Id suggest stopping at MM 174, Chateau Morrisette Winery (www.thedogs.com) Great wine, great food, biker friendly. Great little cabins to rent at MM 208 www.fiddlersroostcabins,com, right on the parkway. I usually make it a point to eat lunch in Little Switzerland (MM 335ish) Mt Pisgah has a good lodge with a crazy good view at MM408 and decent food, and if you into it they also have a good campground. I have too many favorite places to list! but make SURE you ride the Cherahola Skyway, starts in Tellico Plains, TN and ends a few miles from the BRP's first mile in Cherokee. The Cherahola is a far superior road than the Dragon, it just doesn't play the PR game. Enjoy

+1 on the Cherohala, one of my absolute favorite roads. 50 miles of beautiful fun.
The BRP is a great ride, but be sure to get off and try some side roads. US 276 and VA 8 come to mind.
When you reach Front Royal, you might want to head in to West Virginia. US 33, US 250 and US 219 are just the start of it. Fantastic riding in the mountains!
Have a great trip!

Remember its a $500 dollar fine for speeding on the park way. They say its a 18 hour ride from one end to the other. I would skip Florida and do the dragon tail and then head to the park way. 8 of us were doing fifty when we came around a curve and there were six deer in the middle of the road. Are skid marks might still be there

My brother and I are also doing the BRP this year end to end. We are riding from Cleveland to Nashville then south on the Trace Parkway to the end. From there to Tellico Plains to pick up the Cherohala. Then return north on the BRP. We are doing it in a week. I can't take more than a week at a time of vacation. :-(

Lesson one: Don't waste a double post by saying it is a double post without sharing a joke or something.

Okay, I would like to take a ride on the BRP this year and find that it has breath-taking Vistas. I grew up around Virginia and remember days of taking Sunday drives or camping close to BRP or SLD. Don't waste your trip just riding the BRP though, visit the Shendoah Valley, anywhere, Natural Bridge, Roanoke, Waynesboro..etc. When you get to Front Royal, Strasburg and Winchester is not far away, both have places of interest. Below is the map link on the BRP website. Enjoy your stay in Virginia!

I went to AAA and got the travel guide for the Parkway. Looks like lots of very cool stuff to see and do. Only problem is we will be tight on time to do a lot of side trips. We will more than likely use this trip as a scouting trip to see where we want to go back to next year. I know that we are going back to Vermont at some point, what a beautiful place that is to ride!

I agree with the Cherohala Skyway. Road it last fall after the Dragon. Had lunch in a cool place in Tellico Plains then road the Skyway back.
