Fountain Inn, SC United States | Here's a list of aftermarket speakers we've used on the Vision. Which ones do you have?
If yours are listed, add them. No need to list stock speakers.
Tell us how you like them. |

I have the J&Ms, but don't love them. Sure they can go louder than the Vic speakers, but I lost a lot of tonal quality. Good luck with your search.

Fountain Inn, SC United States | Good to know John. I figure many will use this as a review of possible replacements.
I have the Polk 521s and they sound better than stock. Their bigger magnet makes fitting tight but still do-able. They are slightly more efficient than stock speakers (93 db spl vs 92 db spl). With more wattage, their bass is better. |

Posts: 506 Woodland Hills, CA | Like many others I have the J&M and am happy with them (far better than stock). But then this is the first bike I have ever ridden with music, so I don't really have anything else to compare to. And while I have heard other speakers in Visions that sound great, I have not ridden those bikes, so I don't know they would compare in the real world (riding at 75 mph with ear plugs). It would be interesting to be able to do a real world comparison, but since I have neither the inclination nor the money to do so, I will just stick with the J&M. But I am always interested in other opinions, especially by riders who, like me, wear ear plugs when they ride. |

Posts: 935 Rockford, IL | Anyone think it would be worth the time to install a Dynamat type material in the enclosures when installing new speakers?
I think someone around here actually adapted some type of baffles for their speakers? I'm not sure but I think this might be a bit overkill???
I know it would take a bit of time to cut and install Dynamat. I would think that it would cut down some of the resonance from the plastics...correct?
Guess I'm wondering if the benefits would justify the time? |

Dynamite Idea David. I would bet that would help a lot with the loss of sound going out the fairing. |

Posts: 1117 Northeast Ohio | I should also add - the ONLY reason I went with the J&M speakers is for direct drop in replacement (depth and magnet diameter) that were weatherproof. I didn't like the fact that the stock speakers distorted on my 2008 after level 15. My J&Ms go louder without distortion - level 20+, but sound flat. Does anyone know if other ones listed are weatherproof? I would hate to get caught in the rain and ruin them.
A side note - have you ever heard the J&M demo bikes at the shows? Those Harley's sure do sound nice, don't they? A heck of a lot better than my VV does with J&Ms! I know it probably has to do with the speaker size difference between the Harley's and the Vision. If they had a Vision to demo, no one would buy their speakers!

I can recommend the Polk db521 speakers. They sound great once you give them more power even though they are slightly more efficient than the stock speakers. I have an eq/amp on order and hope to install it in the next coming weeks. The tests I did with an old eq/amp really brought out the sound quality of the Polks. While they still are lacking in bass response for my taste, they have more & clearer bass than the stock speakers. With 5.25" speakers, you don't have much surface area for good bass response, especially given the small enclosure volume behind the spkrs. The real problem I hear is with the radio's output which I think sounds muddy. The EQ will remedy that.

I got the J&M speakers for my Vision also, there was a little sound improvement, a little more volume, then 1 day I noticed a buzzing sound in one of them, pulled the bad speaker out and noticed the magnet started to come apart from the cone assembly, used pop rivets and some sheet metal strap to repair........ Looking to get something better with an amp. I don't feel the J&M's are worth the $$$ they are selling for. |

Cook06vegas,
How long did it take, and what did you have to remove from the vision?
It took about three hours. I soldered and heat shrunk everything. I had to take the speakers out, the speaker boxes, the left blinker, the dash and the stuff that's in the way to get that stuff off...

I believe so. I used some polks and there was more room in the trunk than the front. Problem is, there's no enclosure so to make them sound really good something should be fabed. I just used some of those foam baffles. They don't have enough volume for the speakers but they're better than nothing and they keep the rear of the speakers dry..

| Michael,
Yeah I know the kickers are 4 ohm, but the ones from J&M are "Rated at 2 ohms impedance (2.6 ohms actual) and 140 watts max power" I know John Lazz at J&M (the owner of J&M) and he builds his speakers to be an exact match to the bike system the speakers will be used for. Now, having said that, I'm not trying to be argumenative or to push the J&M speakers, as I intend to use either the Kickers (2 or 4 ohm) or the Polk Audio db521 which are 4 ohm. My research for the last couple of hours has shown that the actual ohm value of the VV radio is 2.6 so you really could use either a 2 or 4 ohm set of speakers without doing any damage to anything. As a rule, it is always better to go down in ohms rather than go up. For instance, prior to 2006 the Harley's used a 8 ohm system, and you could use 4 ohm aftermarket speakers on them, without any problem, but if you used an 8 ohm speaker on a 4 ohm aftermarket radio, you are gonna have issues. Wow, all this techie talk has given me a headache, it must be beer thirty somewhere. Thanks, Mark |

I have to believe the are 4 ohm also. Once I add an amp it will be a moot point cause the amp is 4 ohm.

Posts: 103 Davenport, IA | I recently put the Victory Kickers in my front fairing. Easy and fast install, they fit perfectly with no mods. Some noticable improvements over stock. No amp yet. I have an 09 Vision Street Premium, so no need for rear speakers. I can listen to them all day long, cranked up to volume 10 on the interstate wearing full face helmet. I love wearing a full face helmet because you can hear the music better which eliminates all the wind noise going through the ears. |

Without difficult modification, the largest I have seen is 5.25 inch which is the Vision stock size. There is very little room in the speaker area to increase the size.
I saw on this forum someone put speakers in place of the mirrors. They mounted mirrors to the master cylinders like the tyical motorcycle setup. I think those speakers were 6.5 inch. Anyone have a link to that thread to verify my info? |

I have to keep reminding myself to to look at those instead of the fairing mounted mirrors but I can see everything behind me now. Once HMD comes out with their speaker pods, I'll probably get them then add an amp. I just got a modular helmet and the music is very muddled now. |

Posts: 395 Moravia, IA | I took out the stockers (one was badly blown) and replaced them with Polk DB521s. Got a good deal on eBay, bought direct from Polk - $42 shipped.
I used my $9 Harbor Freight heat gun to warm the plastic pods and deform them to fit the deeper Polk speakers - took 45 minutes to complete the the entire job.
Since one of my speakers was toast it was an instant HUGE difference. Seems just as loud (the Polks efficiency rating was 1 db better than the stock speakers). The bass and treble adjustments seem to actually accomplish something besides just causing distortion.
Im happy.....still hard to hear them over my open exhaust at 80mph screaming down the interstate.....but then I dont think anything short of an amp or slowing down will solve that problem. |
