Subject: Wind Warning

On the way into the office this morning I was doing about 50 and as I was leaning over in a right hand curve moving from the outside to inside track a sudden gust of wind from my right tried really hard to push me across the road into the path of an oncoming cage. It did a good job of waking me up.

Other than carrying a passenger I had all of the sails out; windshield up, lowers out, bulky coat, trunk on. Putting the windshield down seemed to help a lot. Read before that large bridges restrict MC traffic in winds of about 45 mph or greater which is what we have here today. I don't mind a little buffeting every once in a while, but this was a bit too much.

Glad you are alright. I fought 35-40 MPH crosswinds for about 4 hrs riding 2 up last summer with 85 degree heat. It was the first day of a 6 day trip. Made the rest of the days a piece of cake

Experienced the same thing on the way to work yesterday in Indy. I was traveling I70 west into down town with winds gusting more than 30 mph from the Northwest. I had several gusts hit me just right at an angle that I had to fight hard not to cross over into adjacent lanes of heavy traffic. Somewhat unnerving to say the least. Be careful folks out there in these transitional weather patterns!

This information that you ae all talking about sounds like normal riding conditions we deal with almost everyday here in Oklahoma. Just ride safe.

Mid-West riding, especially through Kansas proved to be very windy across the plains. Back in June had a continual hot wind out of the south that kept me leaning for about 300 miles and even wicked away moisture it was hard to stay hydrated. To top it off, on the west end before Colorada storms rolled in with winds bad enough to roll a tractor trailer. Ride safe my friend.

Challenging, but not fun for everyday riding. It did give me a greater appreciation for selecting where I wanted to ride in the lane. I would suggest going to the short windshield, unless you need the protection from everything that is being carried by the wind.

Of course you could always put the wind to your back and get some great gas mileage.

I HATE driving in heavy wind. A tip I got that really helped is to grip the bar lightly instead of the natural inclination bear down on the grips. It really makes a difference.

Not much help here, but as a Street owner, the lack of trunk helps a whole lot in these windy situations. The lack of trunk space doesn't bother me much, and a cute little bungee cord kit from Schmucks Auto Parts allows me to strap most anything onto the rack without limitations as to weird shapes or sizes, weather permitting.

I wonder if anyone has a tip on a way to lock a helmet onto the Vision since a full face doesn't fit in the side bags (Grrr)? I see hats sitting on scoots all over the place outside bars and such, but Jeepers, these things cost 4-500 bucks and I don't think begging to have mine stolen is a good option. Maybe off topic, or a subject for a new thread...

Lowering the Visions windscreen greatly reduces the winds effect on my scoot.

To me, helmets are like underwear.
I would never wear someone else's helmet.
I have never locked my helmet up in over 40 years and don't intend to start now.

When the trunk is full I use a KURYAKYN UNIVERSAL HELMET LOCK attached to the bars. Had to pick up some longer bolts to permit it to fit the Vision bar. Also wrapped the bar with a thin rubber strap to protect the finish. With this the lid sits on the dash between the bars so if it happens to rain it doesn't turn into a fishbowl. I used the style that lets the helmet hang and got tired of having it fill with water.

I had to deal with the 30 mph winds this morning on the way to work. But that is not what got to me, it was the blinding rain and the traffic that became a challenge...

Would have thought that VA would have had the same winds that MD experienced yesterday. With warnings of gust over 60 mph I opted for the cage. Today I'll be using the chainsaw on the tree that fell in the back yard.

Since I weigh on the plus side of 300 and am 6'4'' I find that I dont seem to have many issues with wind-you guys just gotta add a few pounds.
