OK, I know there has been lots of posts concerning exhaust systems.  I know we can spend lots of money trying to improve the sound and performance of our Victory Visions.  I'm looking for the best of the low cost options (less than $500) that will improve sound and performance.  Let's see how the votes stack up!  Like to see your comments defending your vote.  Let the debate begin.

Has any body ever tried just running straight pipes? Don't know how loud it would be, but it would sure be cheap!!

I have a warranty question... Will doing your own mods such as the Thrush mufflers effect the warranty issues at all? I have 5 years, and I don't want to $%^! it up. I am very tempted to do this myself, but need to know about the warranty before proceeding.

The least expensive way to make your bike sound better to you would be to ride with a half helmet...

One of the reasons I bought the Victory Vision was because I was tired of my ears ringing after a long ride. 30 years of riding Harleys has not been too kind to the eardrums. Now that I am in my cruising years I want to do just that... CRUISE! I don't need loud pipes to get people's attention, just driving by them does the trick. As for "Loud Pipes Saves Lives" supporters... So does DEFENSIVE DRIVING! The mind set I have when I am riding is " Which asshole is going to pull out in front of me next?" The louder the pipes... the louder the stereo... the louder the stereo... the louder the pipes.... well you get the idea. Your prefrences are you own, just please dont ride beside me on the next run.

If you change the exhaust and something go wrong they would have to prove it cause the problem

Straight pipes will rob you of power. There for racing.
Loud pipes don't save lives. The insurance company say most accidents come from in front or from the side. Not from where you been.

I'm not looking for LOUD, but a little deep rumble would be nice. On a 1 - 10 scale, I put a moped at 1, the Vision at 2, and the loudest straight pipe Harley at 10. I'm looking for a 4-5.

For those of you voted Atom Bombs, what do you like about them & how quick was your turnaround?  Anyone have a Dyno before and after with these?

I have them. Turnaround was under 2 weeks. They are not overly loud, about the same as a stage 1 in my opinion, but sound much better than either the stage 1 or stage 2 Victory pipes. A much deeper tone instead of the high tinny sound the Vic pipes have. Everyone who hears them agrees they sound much better. I'll admit I haven't heard the one with the Thrush mod next to mine, so I can't give you a comparison. My wife and I both love the sound of these, and our helmet communicators still are very audible over the sound.

Had a friend with the stage 2 and removed the baffle, basically straight-piped.  It was loud, and sounded terrible.  Way too much like the HD guys with the small penises.

I'm kinda torn. My bike came with S1L1 and I thought they were to high pitched for a 106 v-twin. I went to the thrush mod and love the sound. Beautiful deep rumble, but it can get a little loud. I'm ok with that and like that I have hundreds of choices for exhaust tips. I heard the Cycledragon ones and they sounded almost as deep but not as loud. I would love to get them, but don't want to spend the $$ and I like having the LED exhaust tips I have on.
The Cycledragon's are like the AtomBombs where they take your stock pipes in exchange, but the inner diameter is somewhere between the S1L1 and the Thrush. The AtomBombs are 2.25 ID, Thrush-2.0 ID, S1L1-1.5 and Ness-2. 25 ID.

Ness and Cycledragon also.

The Ness and AtomBombs both have a 2.25 ID striaght through setup, they will need a remap if you do them. S1L1 is very tame, I thought I had stock pipes until I pulled them off a found out the dealer had replaced the stock ones with S1L1s. Cycledragon says theirs do not need a remap. They were more aggressive than S1L1s but less than Thrush. AtomBombs and Ness would be the most aggressive. I have not heard the L2s, but you cannot use different tips on those anyway.

If straight pipes rob you of power and are for racing how does this help-dont you want more power for racing?

I have a Lloyds VFC III. I assume that with this, a remapping is not necessary, but that I may need to make some changes to the setup if I went to Atom Bombs or Ness? Can someone confirm.

I do have the Lloyds intake. Will any of these exhaust upgrades add to overall performance given the intake? Any insights would be appreciated

Will the CFR's use the fluted tips? Thanks for the info above. When I do the exhaust I will get a PC5 and autotune so mapping shouldn't be an issue.

Straight drag pipes give more HP and torque at the very top end of your rpms because there is less resistance, but in the mid and low range, where exhaust flow is not the bottleneck, it robs you of torque, which needs a little backpressure. If all you are going to do is race at redline, then drag pipes are superior. For around town, they are loud and won't perform as well.

+1 ATOM BOMBS ,,woo hoo! GREAT sound but cant varify the true performance,,, rode (very short) 3 days ago,, still much snow here in MN and 18 inches coming today,,AARGH! I think the power is better but will confirm later and hope to dyno at AVR this year. Had L2 ,,, sound wise about double on hard throttle but MUCH deeper and more V TWIN music..... On slow roll on not much more than L2 but for sure more sound if you want it! 14 days from my house to my house. THANKS TO BOB!! LOVE EM!
