Going to buy a tow behind Motorcycle trailer this year...don't need a large one. I'm done camping , just to bring the extra..
Never haul a trailer behind my bike. Don't know what to expect..
Can anybody give me the Pro's and Con's of a one wheel VS two wheel trailer.

I've done a bigger 2 wheel trailer. The heavier the trailer, the more it affects braking and control of the bike. A one wheel trailer should be lighter but can't carry as much. If you can get away with the space limits of a one wheel, go for it! The only advantage I see for a two wheeled small trailer is that it will stand up on its own and doesn't need a special hitch.

Take a look at Aaron Kelly's thread on his cheap trailer. I will be doing the same thing this spring. If you read his blog, he's towed it all over the country. Sounds like the best deal there.

Don't have any experience with a single wheel, but I would be concerned about anything with less than a 12" tire. On a long haul the smaller wheel is putting out a lot of revolutions compared to those big wheels on the Vision. I use a Harbor Freight trailer that I cut down to fit under a roof top carrier for a cage. Extremely light and stable, and slightly narrower than the width of the bike. Just have to use a cargo net in it to keep the contents from shifting and placing too much weight on the tongue which is the only time I noticed any affect on handling. Since some of the single wheel trailers have the tire mounted behind the cargo box I wonder about managing the weight on the tongue.

If I ever buy a trailer it would be one of these.

unigo trailer is tiny. I pull a trailer on 2 or 3 trips a year, I hardly no its there. Ironically, I feel it on acceleration and not braking. Otherwise , I don't know it's there. My friend builds trailers or at least , he used to.

RCS,

That is sweet! I just sent an email asking if they plan to offer a Victory Vision hitch. Anyone interested should also send an email to bjennings@totalnet.us

We don't have the numbers that HD or Honda have, we what we do have is a passionate bunch of people, many looking for an offering just like this that will blend with the style and performance we are accustomed to.

he builds the one wheel you see in the link I attached and a larger two wheel conventional model which I own. I can't find a pic of mine.

I can't speak to a two wheel trailer, never had one.  I have an 08 Vision Tour Premium and I tow the one-wheel uni-go trailer.  Pics are available in the gallery section.  I ride double and pull the trailer and have gone all over east coast with no problem.  I use a Hitch Doc hitch. Hitch and trailer setup was easy, only hard part was wiring harness.  I had an electrician friend help me with trailer wiring and isolator.  I love the uni-go, it is easy to tow, very maneuverable, doesn't affect acceleration or handling, I can notice it a little bit on braking.  It is pricey and doesn't haul as much as the two wheels but it's perfect for me, looks good with bike and very nimble.

I have towed a single wheel that I built for my Drifter. I have yet to put a hitch on my Vision. But i loved the looks I got with it. They do tend to put more tongue weight on the hitch.

Thanks for the info...keep it coming...
What about the handling on the road... Do the single perform better in the twisties an all?
Is the 2 wheel more stable then the single or there about the same?

Do Not Use Real Chains!!!!
Go to the hardware store and buy the plastic lamp chain. No you have a brake away if the trailer comes off you might not go down

Kinda defeates having chains. Do you just have the plastic one's so a cop won't notice as easy as none? Wonder wich is worse, going down cuz your trailer came apart? Or staying up and watching the trailer crash into somebody else?

Are chains required because it's that way on cars and no one thought about the fact it could pull a biker down doing more bad than good?

edsasdelli,

Any issues with the Hitch Doc and the Uni-Go? I assume you have the uni-go conversion kit?  What would be pro's and con's of having a uni-go designed hitch vs adapted Hitch Doc?  Web site mentioned to watch for side-to-side "play."  I would appreciate your thoughts and opinions.

definately #2: watching the trailer hit a car or truck behind you . I'd rather be responsible for some property damage (not likely to injure occupants of a 4 or more wheeled vehicle) than being injured or killed with a rogue trailer chained to my tail.

I take my 2 wheeled trailer on a 550 mile trip to Daytona every year. We camp . The capacity is what I like. And I can carry tent, chairs, clothes, cooler with groceries, misc, and a good selection of tools for unforseen mechanical issues (which I don't have because it's a Victory )

N-Line and Third Wheel both make good trailers. I saw the N-line at Laughlin and was impressed. They both weigh the same but N-line has twice the capacity and a much larger tire. It is longer and does look more harleyesque though.

Man314:

I purchased part number #15765 Victory Vision HitchDoc Hitch for  $298.00 from www.hitchdoc.com .  The receiver came with my UniGo since it is my understanding they are not interchangeable, connection is a very tight fit and their is a set screw to tighten to eliminate any remaining side to side play.  I wasn't sure which way to go so I called http://www.schoolhousemcacc.com/contact_us.php?osCsid=9096a141d3589750eb8ed449ada5883f the guys at UniGo dealer and they were extremely helpful.  They told me exactly what I needed, mailed it out within a few days.  If you have any questions give them a call, they are great.  They had no problem with me using a HitchDoc.

Hope this helps?

Thx ED! That is reassuring. How difficult was the HitchDoc to install? Were you able to do it without removing the real wheel?

Edsasdelli, that one looks small enough to carry up to your hotel room. Is that a carrying handle on the front?

Man314:

Hitch install:  I am not a "wrenchhead" and my wife and I installed the Hitchdoc in about an hour.  I did not remove the rear wheel.   I used a motorcycle jack to lift the bike and let the rear wheel hang, thereby giving me ample work space between the top of rear wheel and bottom of tour trunk.  Then remove the seat and work through a a rectangular hole under the seat.  It has a black plastic cover on it, but just use a screwdriver to pop out the plastic cover and work thru that rectangular hole.  You can get to all 4 bolts that hold the hitch on to the same four bolts that hold the trunk on.  Then there is just two more bolts down at the bottom to stabalize the hitch.  You need another person to hold the hitch in place while you thread the 4 bolts.  Really, it is not hard, just take your time.

Yes it is a carry handle and yes I do take it right in the hotel room.  However, I do get some strange looks when I tow it through the hotel hallway.

edsasdelli,

Getting ready to pull the trigger on a Uni-Go and I've been reading some past posts. Funny thing is, I live ~ 10 miles south of where the Hitch Doc factory is . . . I'll likely just drive up and pick one up.

Did you buy the vertical hitch conversion unit from Uni-Go?

Did you purchase the circuit isolation relay from Uni-Go?

Did you end up having dealer wire in this in or did you do it yourself?

Do you still love this trailer??

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, bought vertical hitch conversion and ISO relay from Schoolhouse (UniGo Dealer).  As I said earlier, they were very helpful and I got all my accessories from them. (mine had a cracked lense, I also ordered a replacement lense).   I started the wiring job but realized I was over my head.  Fortunately, I have a friend who is a Master Electrician and very good with auto electric/wiring.  He came over and finished the job and wired the ISO, the trailer plug and cut into the Vision Harness.  I would recommend using professional unless you are really handy with electric....and you definitely need the ISO so don't skimp on that.

I absolutely love this trailer, I have no regrets, It carries all the gear I need, I get lots of compliments and looks.  I love the way it drives and handles.  I think you'll be very happy with it.  It holds more than you think. If you have other questions, don't hesitate to e-mail me directly edsasdelli@comcast.net

If you don't have a lot of stuff to take with you, you could put a HitchDoc hidden hitch on your Vision and use a removable Pak-It Rak.

It has with a Nelson-Riggs bag which can hold up to @ 40 lbs.  They make adapters for various bikes.

My wife and I use one and we don't know it is back there.  The weight is low(not top heavy), no extra tires on the ground, no trailer chains, no extra wind resistence, not limited to right traffic lane, not limited to lower trailer speeds.

One NOTE:  You need to get brake and turn signals higher up on your bike if you use this option.

HTH,

Tim

Hitch doc and harbor freight are an excellent choice. Both can be had for about, roughly, approximately 300 each. Search for harbor freight on this site.

There is a a member on this group that sells the hitch and they can be installed easily.

The harbor freight trailer is very inexpensive and works well. Trailer lights can be a bit confusing. ( four wire, five wire etc). but the actual wiring is very easy.

Some folks have mounted a spare tire under the trailer.

I could not feel the trailer behind me.

I know this is all personal opinion, but I think I like the one wheel trailers better for a bike. The bike has a line and the trailers have the same line. If you use a two wheel trailer then it just seems to make the bike less. I don't know if this makes sence since I have had a few today cleaning the garage, but it just seems to flow better with a one wheel trailer. Again, just my opinion. Now, pass another beer!!
