I got this camera for Christmas and I was wondering how many other touring riders out there use this on their bikes.

If you do, where did you mount it and what resolution are you using for your movies ?

ME TOO ! I will ALWAYS use the highest resolution because a lot of the footage will end up on an AVCHD DVD for viewing on high-def TV's. If you put it on YouTube - high def works - but can be viewed at a lower resolution by those with a slow internet connection. But the future of internet is MUCH faster - and soon! Japan's average is something like 10X faster than U.S. - and expect up to 100X faster in next few years. At 720p, the GoPro is BARE MINIMUM High-Def. I will watch this thread carefully for answers to your questions and wish to add a question of my own: What is the best SD CARD to buy for this camera? REPHRASE: What is the most $$ effective card to buy? Thanks!

I got a 32GB Kingston SDHC card for mine. It was $70 on Amazon but they recommend using a high quality SDHC due the the vibration. I figured just pay the money now and enjoy worry free long recording time later. It would be a pain to stop recording just because you maxed out a 16GB card after a couple of hours.

Recording time will vary according to the resolution setting used and the card capacity. Here are the average recording storage times for a 32GB SD card: 1080p (30 fps): 4h 21m 960p (30 fps): 5h 26m 720p (60 fps): 4h 21 720p (30 fps): 8h 09m WVGA (60 fps): 8h 09m.

I'm going out for a ride today to try it out.

This camera is great. I always use HD, and so far have just mounted it to the fairing (right over one of the mirrors) using the suction cup mount. So far, I have not had a problem with it, but I am thinking of adding a safety lanyard just in case.

I used mine in Vegas last summer, and mounted it on the fairing over the left mirror. We rented bikes from the Arlen Ness dealer in Vegas; I had a vision and my wife a Cross Country. The temp gauge heading out to the Canyon was on 120F and the suction cup would dry out and come loose after about an hour, so the lanyard is a must in my opinion. I set the camera on 1080 HD and the resolution and footage was great. We got some great footage heading to and from the North rim.

I mounted mine to the center of the windshield so that when it is in the lowest position it sits just above the fairing.

I ran the same route three times today with the camera set at 1080, 960 & 720. The 1080 was very clear but was jittery. The 960 had too much vertical view to it. Surprisingly, the 720 was the best stable view that I got. I may try another spot to mount it on to see if it eliminates the jittery effect I got with the 1080p mode.

I'm not totally sold on it yet. I am going to go for a longer ride tomorrow when the light is better and see what I get.

The weather today was scattered high clouds with a bright sky but it was not as light on the ground so it might have been underexposing to compensate.

If you have the choice try 720p at 60 frames per second. That is best for fast action.

Helmet mount!!

Yea, it might be fun to do that just to record the looks you get from people that think you are a dork for having that attached to the front of your helmet !

But I am a dork.

It mounts to the side of the helmet btw, and will probably produce the best image as far as a stable platform to shoot from. It also is not fixed in a single position. (where you look is what will be recorded.) You can set it up to take still shots at various intervals so the unit is extremely versatile in that regard.

Flyin Hawaiian - I wasn't calling YOU a dork. I meant me.

I tried some more runs yesterday with it and did it in 1080 & 720. The 720 is definitely more stable and less grainy.

I am going to try the helmet mount and see what I get. It gives you more of a feeling of riding a bike rather that flying down the road at low level.

I saw one video that the guy did with a wing from the crash bar that had the front fender in the frame. It looks pretty cool plus he had Pink Floyds "Welcome to the Machine" as the sound track.

I love those clouds. I'm going to make a low fairing vid like that when I get a GoPro and see if my Vision is that smooth.

see if my Vision is that smooth.

It will be smoother ! The wings are very stiff in the front. My Vision is so much smoother over rough roads and expansion cracks.

I did a few runs with it on different settings, but the 720 is the most stable and clear. The 1080p is just too jittery at speed.

I don't have a GoPro, but I have a Tachyon XC camera, 2009 model. I used the helmet mount at first, mostly riding a Honda Helix and a Sportster. On my Vision I put RAM mount balls on the handle bars where the extra mirrors would go. This seems to work best, I only get the edge of the windshield in the field of view.
