I wanted to have a mount for my Vision that would hold a large American flag and a Patriot Guard Riders flag for PGR missions but it is difficult at best to find somewhere to mount a holder with our drilling into tupperware somewhere or installing a hitch just for the flags.

I finally came up with a solution that works for both my Road Star and the Vision with or without the trunk attached.

I made this out of stuff in my junk drawer and cabinet so I don't have a bunch of money into this for the nice outcome.

First off, the idea is to use the removable Utopia riders backrest receiver as the mounting point. It is sturdy enough to hold my tonnage on the bike so I don't see why it won't work for the flags.

I used a 1" steel strap that fits right into the backrest holder and I bent it back slightly toward the rear of the bike.

Next I found some tubes that are just slightly larger than the aluminum flag pole and arranged them so that I can carry two flags in a V formation. These were mounted to a back plate that is 1/16th steel for strength. You could also use 1" PVC tubing for this with some pipe holders for securing them to the backing plate.

You can also use aluminum hose holders for hot rod applications if you want to get fancy.

Here is the unit mounted on the bike. The strap part just slips into the back rest receiver. You can pull it right back out to take it off the bike.

The backing plate and holders can also be mounted on the sissy bar of my Road Star with very little effort. I am drilling holes in the plate that will match up with the bolts for mounting the sissy bar pad. This way I can take whichever bike I want.

This project is not hard and can be done with minimal mechanical skills. It sure beats paying $250+ for the ones for sale on eBay and other places and none of them are made for a Victory bike.

Nice Mod. I don't have the Utopia Backrest or would do this. Have you tried it yet? What is the largest Flag(s) you can put on it?

I am still looking for something (Short of a Trailer Hitch Mount) for mounting a large flag to the sides or rear of my 08. If anyone knows any options, I am all ears. everything I have seen is for small flags on the trunk lid.

Nice mod but I would be concerned that the backrest bracket in the seat was not designed to take the drag load of 2 large flags without damage to the seat. But good luck with it.

I'd thought about that aspect and I am thinking it supports my weight when I lean against it during acceleration and while riding it shouldn't be a problem.

I haven't had a chance to ride it yet with two flags because of the rains but I am going to have my wife go along beside me and tell me if it looks OK.

If it isn't, then I have plan B ready to go. I have a support bar that will extend back to the lower part of the back seat to give it additional support.

As for the fit on the Road Star - it is great. It mounts in a few minutes and is rock solid. I have the PGR flag coming tomorrow so I will try the flags out on both bike and update this thread with pix.
