| I have 08 Premium Tour. I got a Gerbing jacket liner, gloves, and a dual contoller for Christmas. I would like to purchase the pants liner and socks. My question is will the Vision's electrical system support a Jacket liner, gloves, pant liner, and socks. Any help would be appreciated.

Posts: 1632 Jasper, MO | Yes. The Vision's electrical system will support TWO full sets of heated gear. You have a 50 AMP charging system. Two full sets of gear will pull less than 30 AMPs total, and that would only be if everything was actually turned on full blast at one time. With the digital controllers, in practice, you will be operating the gear in a 50% or less duty cycle most of the time. The controllers send pulses of power to the gear. The higher you set the controller, the more pulses per minute the controllers send, and the more heat you get. With the dual controller, or controllers if you have a passenger with heated gear, pulses are staggered between the various pieces of gear.
You might also look at the Gerbings heated insoles instead of the socks. Socks sometimes bunch up and you get hot spots, or the wires cause pressure points on the bottom of your feet.
Another good product is the Warm-N-Safe line of heated gear. All the Gerbings and Warm-N-Safe stuff is 100% compatible. Warm-N-Safe markets a line of heated gear specifically cut for the female form. They also extend a 20% to 30% discount to club members. If you are a member of any recognized group or organization (like the Victory Motorcycle Club, Goldwing Road Riders, Harley Owners Group, Adventure Riders, BMW Owners, Fire, Police, etc) then just register an account on their website and list yourself as a member of the appropriate group. They don't even ask for verification to see if you really are a member. Once you have registered, you will be given the opportunity to log in to your account each time you visit their website. When you log in, the discounted prices are automatically displayed and you can order factory direct. at the discounted prices. You can also order factory direct at the retail prices if you don't register an account, but why would you? You have seen their products sold at retail as the FirstGear, Powerlet, and WarmGear brands.

The W/S gear is made with expandable panels and I find it to be more comfortable and better fitting than the Gerbings. The companies offer the exact same warranty on their stuff. Lifetime on the heating elements and 1 year on everything else. Gerbing's advertising tends to give the impression that the lifetime warranty is on the whole thing, but read the fine print. They are both good products, and I own both brands.

You don't say where you live. Keep in mind if its that cold out where you'll be all pluged in you might want to think twice before going out.

I live in South Eastern Pa. I don't ride in the snow, or if the salt residue is bad.
I have spent most of my life outdoors. The weather here is mild compared to the far north, but the older I get the more I mind it. I really want to relocate to South. | |

While rdbudd is correct on the charging system output, please keep in mind that the 50amps is also used for all of the bike's electrical needs. Headlights, brake lights, ignition, radio, etc. You won't have a full 50 amps at your disposal. That being said, if you are riding solo, you will be fine. However, if you ride 2-up, you will see the volt meter drop below 12 at idle with 4 pieces of big gear plugged in. Victory originally was going to offer a 65amp upgrade, but pulled it for some unknown reason.

True enough about the voltage dropping at idle. It will drop to a lower level ( on my bike right at 12 volts) and stay there as long as the bike is idling at 1000 RPM. If it worries you, holding the throttle so the bike is at 1500 RPM brings the voltage right back up, while I'm sitting at a traffic light, even with two sets of gear running. We have run two full sets of gear ( jackets, pants, gloves, insoles) for two years now, with no problems. The total rated wattage of all of it is 334 watts (we have the Warm-N-Safe jacket liners, which provide 90 watts of heat. The popular Gerbings jacket liners are 77 watts). In practice, with the digital electronic controllers, it isn't pulling that much wattage 100% of the time. The controllers send timed pulses to the gear, and with two dual channel controllers (four channels total) in practice, voltage is being sent to different pieces of gear at different times. You will see some overlap at times if you watch the little blinking lights, but rarely is the full 334 watts being pulled simultaneously. Even when it does occur, it is only for a split second.
I'm still running all the stock lighting on the bike, plus extra LED lights on the trunk, plus two sets of heated gear. The wife will also have her heated seat turned on at the same time.
The Vision will easily handle all the heated gear you and a passenger may want, if you use the digital electronic controllers to spread the loads out. Don't worry. Be warm and happy.

| I went for a ride this morning with my heated Gerbing gear. This was my first ride with any heated gear. I used the jacket liner, gloves, insoles, and dual controller. I did not purchase the pant liner. It wasn't that cold this morning, around 30 degrees. They worked great, had turn the system off around noon it was close to 40 degrees. | I have an 08 and pre-ordered the 65amp stator when I pre-ordered the bike. I was buying a 2-up touring bike and knew I would be placing electronics on the bike. The 65amp stator has not shown up even thought it appeared as accessories in the 08 and 09 catalog. Heard rumors about electrical noise problems.
The 50amp charging system WILL run out. I have to watch what all I have simultaneously turned on when riding 2 up (Gerbing heated jacket liners and Gerbing heated gloves). Make sure your idle is up, else stop lights can be a drain (the incandescent brake lights add up). You can replace the 3157 incandescent bulbs with LEDs and get back a bunch of current (4 in front and 6 in back). I replaced my 55/60 watt Halogens with 35 watt Xenon HIDs to get back more current (in addition to switching to LEDs). I also upped my idle fuel setting on my VFC3 so I wouldn't have to constantly worry about stop lights. I had it set really low to save fuel, but running idle killed the battery.
I have since replaced my battery with a stronger larger capacity version. Driving lights, headlights, heated seats, heated grips, heated clothing, brake lights, running lights, stereo, etc. overruns the 50 amps system. HTH, Tim

| I bought an Odyssey battery. They make one that is slightly larger than the Vision's tray, but has quite a bit more capacity.
