For the first time in a long time I just took off for a round trip to the outlet mall in San Marcos. About an 80 mile trip.

Tomorrow - Corpus Christi for lunch. About 310 miles round trip.

I would love to ride today but know that in the summer (July & August) you do not ride much. I would trade it off but I wear full riding gear and could not ride for over two to three months down there. Tell you what, come North and we can ride next year in the, lets say 40's and see how we all do Brother!!

Ride hard, ride fast, but above all - ride fast.......

8-Ball and all,

The ride down was almost work. It was 45 degrees and very humid with a 25 to 35 mph front right quarter head wind. It wasn't just blowing me around. The Semi's, Trucks and cars were all over their lanes.

I met my friend and his wife at Smolik's Smokehouse in Mathis Texas and never made to Corpus Christi. Smolik's Smokehouse is good BBQ!

After lunch that I went to their house on Lake Corpus Christi. It was a nice place right on the lake.

Now it has heated up to 85 degrees so I removed the UA Heatgear top I had on and I put on the mesh jacket.

Strike when the opportunity presents itself.
On the way home on a well maintained two lane back road in fifth gear, wind at my back, with no animals are moving around, not any crossroads to speak of, the road is straight and no other traffic in sight I decided to blow the carbon off the spark plugs.

With a wide open throttle (WOT), Mach .16 arrived rather quickly. I maintained that speed for about 10 seconds (third of a mile). When I crested a small rise in the road at speed I felt my rear leave the seat and wondered of my tires left the road for a moment. I thought of the Isle of Man TT videos where the bike becomes airborne at the crest of a rise. A few moments after that I backed off and slowed down to just above the posted speed limit. Wow 65 feels so slow now! Too bad I do not have a video unit since that would have been cool. Next time I need to remember to lower the windshield all the way.

The rest of the ride home was a pleasure. With the stiff wind at my back the and the Cruise Control set at 75 (in a 70) it felt like I was doing only 40.

Ride Safe

I'm spoiled with year round riding. I was born and raised in Superior, WI. I can't go back to the snow.

Let me tell you Brothers and Sisters,

Makes me a little bit crazy not being able to ride.... I was lucky this year and look forward to riding at the first spring rain storm to wash off the salt. Most places are too hot for me in the summer, but as I age I would like to move to the SE area where they ride almost 11 months out of the year. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year....

Ride hard, ride fast, but above all - remember the reason for the season....
