15 degrees when I left for work this morning.  (Not a big deal to you Snowbirds but in Memphis, that's cold!)  I pulled up to the guard shack and one of the three guards came out, all hunched over, rubbing his hands.  "We took a poll and it's unanimous.  You're in-f***ing-sane!"  I laughed and went to park.

I got inside and within 30 minutes four different people came up to me and said I passed them on the way in.  They all said they were freaking out to see a motorcycle coming up on them but when they saw the "V" tail light go by they said "Oh, nevermind, it's just Tom."

One of my Harley buddies even said he gave me a "Man-up salute"as I went by.  I said "A man-up salute?  What's that?"  He said "I rolled my windows down in your honor, counted to five, and rolled them back up.  Big mistake.  My ears are still cold."  We both busted out laughing.

I try to tell my wife how my day went at work but she just shakes her head and stares.

That is cool......No that is COLD! You are nuts. It was 27 this morning here in SA and I have the day off. I have not even left the house.

Ride Safe in a relatively insane kinda way.

Not a problem in SoCal.
Of course when it hits 112 in the summer, you feel like your riding in a convection oven.

27 ?  That's almost up to when I park my VV - too damned hot to drive. T-shirt temps .... too warm.

Oh, wait. You're talking farenheit?  OK - that's coolish - but as long as the roads are bare - good riding temperature.

Don,

The roads are clear today. I took of on a little run in the after 4 today. It warmed up to 60 F.

Songfan,

What gear did you have on today and how many layers? I am sure the grips and seat was on High heat.

Shoei Multitec helmet, two overlapping fleece neck gaiters (most important gear!) one sealing the jacket neck the other jammed up under the helmet covering ears and chin, Fieldsheer Polar gauntlet gloves, Cortech jacket with liner, sweatshirt, turtleneck shirt, fleece lined Carhartt jeans, Cortech overpants, merino wool socks, Alpinestar Gore-Tex boots.

The grips were on high, windshield about halfway up (didn't want the wind on my hands with it all the way up), no heated seat.  My stock seat has a split in it so I got a leather seat this summer.  I haven't recovered the stock vinyl seat yet and the leather isn't heated.  25 minute commute.  The very tips of my fingers started to get chilly.  Everything else was 100% comfortable.  The Shoei is by far the most comfortable full-face helmet I have ever worn.  The pin-lock anti-fog visor is fantastic.

Interesting note - Once the temp gets to 20 F and below, the readout on the dash sticks at -0.

It was 21 degrees here in Bham this AM and I rode today as well. It was not too bad, but I need gloves with a thicker back on them to shield the wind. I had on Fleece balaclava, my Olympia textile with liner and jeans with boots. Heated grips on high with unlined leather gloves. Modular Helmet is breezy, but fine.
I got lots of " you're crazy". I just grin and nod!

OK Tom, I have two questions, did the guy with the 250 ride in this morning? If he did, he's the man! And does the cold finger tips have any effect on the air traffic in the midwest...

No Rebel in the parking lot.  I think his limit is about 27.  Fingertips thawed out 2 minutes after I got inside the building.

It was interesting to watch the 150kt jetstream dip down over Arkansas and TN today.  High altitude jets going northwest-bound were doing about 300 kts over the ground (headwind) while the exact same type aircraft going southeast-bound were doing nearly 600 kts (tailwind).

ghostssx - 21 degrees in BHM!  Niiiiiice!  99 percent of the population in the south doesn't own a decent set of gloves and a lot of the "Southern Belles" were waaaay colder than we were this morning!  The women at work were freaking out at the thought of me riding the bike on a day like this.  Good times.

I've been a lot colder on a 40 degree day on my previous bikes than I was today.

Songfan, with another check on his bucket list! the temp at my house was either 17 or 18 degrees F. I shoulda rode, but I have a heated grip out and have children to pick up this afternoon and they wouldn't appreciate the ride like either one of us do. I haven't got motivated enough or time, whichever, to get the grip back on. Today would have been the coldest for me. I have been down to 27 degrees, but most of the time, there is normally a form of water accommodating the chill. I would have given you the man salute, but the heater was working, so I just left the window up.

What is the next temp goal? This has to be the coldest here to have been able to ride.

I feel proud to say that I've been hitting personal record lows lately. Previous was 32 degrees, but it's been friggin' cold here in Augusta lately. But thermal layers, windproof liners, heated grips and seats makes it easy. Each morning when I go in, I just have to make sure to avoid the ice that's on the driveway from the sprinkler system! lol. So far, I think 24 degrees is the coldest I've seen my temp monitor say. But there's still January and February! And in February I'm bringing the bike to Norfolk, VA so I'll get a chance to REALLY set a low!

Alexi

PS - Gate guard reactions for me were pretty much the same, but I think the vision and my bright neon gear is starting to get recognized. A few times I've been through and they didn't ask for my ID, just said, "Yeah. I remember you. Go on through."

-3 was my lowest. This year I hit 9. By the way when you drop below 15 the bike doesn't read right. I get -- on the display for temp. It was 23 when I came to work today.

Too much slush, snow, black ice, and salt this week. So I had to drive the truck. Last week it was in the low 20's, and my temp guage also complained, it gave me a reading of -9.

19 yesterday morning. 37 mile ride in... All I had and needed were my Gerbing Union Ridge jacket, pants and gloves --- nice and toasty all the way in.
