recently got an 09 Ness Street Vision. Mods include CFR Slip ons, ness air box and stage one download.
Runs fine no backfiring sputtering or anything. When starting always turn two or three times before starting.
Used to my harley hitting on the first crank. However it was the same befor the mods were added. Could someone give me a ballpark on what the gas mileage should be, I'm getting about 30mpg just going back and forth to work 6 miles each way, 3 or 4 lights. Seems like should be more. Was wondering if I should get a dyno on it? any advice and feedback would be appreciated.

I consistently get about 42 to 46, depending on conditions.

As for starting, mine will crack in the first or second turn. Are you letting the fuel pump completely pressure up before cranking?

So you don't tell us enough. How many miles do you have on the bike. It takes a good 2 to 3 thousand miles for the motor to start to brake in and then the millage start to get better. Are your tires up to specs and how hard to you leave the stop light.
All of these things count on getting better millage.

My milage depends on temps. Above 75 degrees and I'm consistantly better than 45 mpg, anything below 75 my mileage drops....at 35 degrees I'm getting 37-38 mpg.

I haven't really hit the road with it so maybe I'm being a little premature in thinking my mileage is out of whack. Talking to the victory service guys in the Houston area they just don't seem to have a real grip on the technical aspects of the engine. The guy who put the exhaust on advisded me to get it on a dyno to see where you are at. I have zero knowledge of a dyno and what information it will offer other than hp and torque. For you guys who are in the know will the dyno let me know if the fuel mixture is correct etc? I hate to be so ignorant it's really bad when you don't know what you don't know. and of course none of the victorydealers have a dyno. Any shared knowledge is appreciated. Mike thanks for the info.

Yep you need to get to around 2500 miles before the mileage is going to improve. Mine averaged around 46, but was as high as 52 mpg on one trip. Colder weather really drops the mpg, for me to around 36 mpg. I've found that a 4-6 mpg drop is average for most V-Twins.

Get up on the highway and go tank to tank and see what you get. You are riding the worst route for mileage. How much mileage do you think you are getting sitting at 6 to 8 redlights? Do you ever get it out of 4th gear?

I think it hurts your mileage driving such a short distance to work AND through redlights. My suggestion would be to move farther away from work or get a job farther away from home and incorporate some freeway time LOL! Just joking

38.6 average.
But, it has been cold, and my bike only has 2100 miles so far.

Lots of reasons for less mpg in winter time.  Different fuel "winter mix", colder air is denser so EFI adds more fuel to maintain the A/F ratio, wind deflectors and lowers are all the way out, run with the windshield in a higher position - worse with a taller than stock windshield, shorter trips.

If you want the ultimate mpg numbers, ride all day above 10,000' in the Rockies on a hot summer day with a blade windshield and no lower wind deflectors.  Would probably push 60mpg.

This was pushing it a little bit. Has any one gone further than 258 miles on one tank, I did that last summer riding from west Ga. to Charlotte NC on I-85. Was sweating the last twenty miles cause the light had been on for a while and it was 3 AM, not all exits have open gas stations at that time of morning. When I did fill up in Gastonia it took 5.55 gallons.........I would have been walking at about 280 miles............

On my 09 with almost 11k on it, I get 35-38 in the city driving and have had up to 57 in the Trace at 50 mph. Also watch where you buy fuel, no not mix ethanol and non-ethanol, it will get terrible mileage. Run either or.

I have an 09 with only 800 miles on it. When driving in the city, light to light, the mileage is well under 40 mpg. But once on the highway, jumps up to ~43 mpg. Just had my break-in service and switched to Amsoil 20w-50. Unfortunately, the oil change comes at the same time as the temps are dropping, so won't know until we get a warm spell if the Amsoil helps with mpg. Did notice that the bike seems to shift a little easier on the Amsoil. BTW, I have zero financial interest in Amsoil and am not trying to start an oil thread. Although they are fun to read ;-)
