| Much to my embarrassment I have officially joined the Tip Over Club. My wife and I were riding two up on Saturday, planning to take a ride in the country after visiting a friend. We were in an unfamiliar neighborhood and had to make a turn in a tight cul-de-sac... I didn't see the leaf debris in the road and the rear tire slipped right out from under us... D'Oh! Next thing I know the VV is over and I'm reaching for the kill switch. It was a super-lo-speed dump that left us little surprised and a little red in the face but no worse for the wear. The Vision was not hurt either. I put the lift procedure that I'd learned in the online video into play and we were up and on our way in about 60 seconds. Funny that we were out to enjoy the fall leaves but it was the leaves that made us fall... |

Once on a fuel inlet at a gas station, the second time in the driveway when I forgot the side stand, and the third time when I was backing into a spot and I slipped on some rocks. So maybe thats why you haven't done it. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | The one time that I almost seriously dumped it was on a back road in Virginia in the Tidewater area and I saw some Harleys stopped in a slopped wide spot on a curve. I was riding two-up with the wife and in my quick thinking I stopped. Once I got on the gravel I put my foot down and it was on the lower side. I begin to loose the balance and was almost in tears in trying to hold it up with the wife on the back. Worse yet, I was a few feet away pointing at one of the other bikes so I dare not take off to keep it upright and knew I was surely going down and was going to take the other bike with me.
After an agonizing eternity, that probably just lasted a few seconds, one of the other riders begin to come to my rescue just as I was able to get enough umph, and I believe by wife shifted to the right some, I was able to balance once again. I rolled easily ahead, avoiding the other bike and was on stable ground.
They other bikes had just stopped to rest, on Harley's you know and the tush gets sore in short order, by their accounts. To make matters worse, we leave, heading out the gravel on to the payment with no problem and once on the road I get down on it, and then throw it into neutral on the way to second and tached it out before regaining myself and finding second.
I just felt like the idiot the rest of the day on the cool bike that almost got dumped and then can't find second....
I find that it is a habit when I stop and having had to pick up the other bikes to throw the kick down.
I know this really doesn't count, I did have the bike fall over on the right side when putting on the left muffler. I had the kick on a block that made the bike almost up right, and as was putting the pipe on I guess I pushed the bike and away it went. The bad part is it went completely to the mirror, but nothing got harmed as I was in the grass when it happened.
Oh - I forgot, I did dump it one time. In the middle of an intersection when a lady in a pick-up ran the redlight at about 45mph's and she came within inches of me as the front wheel cocked to the left and the bike went down. Had it not been for "dumping it" I would not be writing this right now.

Been there, got the tee shirt. Glad I'm not alone.
There is one bar I will not return to. Saw a bunch of bikes and decided to join in. Of course, the crowd separated. 80% kept their distance from the interloper. 20% wanted to know all about the bike. I was there for 2 hours, talking. Only had one beer.
I had hyped up the power of the Vision so much, I decided to show off on my way out of the parking lot. From about 5 mph, I took the engine up to about 3000 rpm and dumped the clutch in second gear. That's when I found out that the entire apron was covered in a fine coat of gravel... invisible in the dark. The dozens of harleyboys ducking for cover from my shrapnel was not so invisible.
I got out and stayed out. I feel kinda bad about it all, but stopping to apologize probably would have landed me in the hospital. |

| I know from past experience that when I think it's a great idea to show off I will most likely do something bone headed and look like a jacka$$... nevertheless, I keep trying. |

This weekend I dropped it again while on dirt and gravel at the gun range. The tipover dug into the dirt while turning. I used the experienced as a lesson on the correct method of lifting a tipped Vision.
The range owner was impressed.

Funny that we were out to enjoy the fall leaves but it was the leaves that made us fall... Yours was not infront of what seemed to be thousands of people......if you want to look at it on the positive side. Ours was getting into the parking area of the Overlook at Cascade, MD. This parking area if you want to call it that..... is basically a torture test for bikes and riders with massive boulder edges protruding everywhere and at all angles. I had no issue there over the decades parking all types of bikes, but first time with Vision I had the choice to park along the road....butttttttt.........nooooooooooooo..... I had my wife get off and gave it a go. All went well until the last 3 inches when I was almost stopped where I wanted to park.....hit an odd shaped rock just protruding...and over it went. It was like slow motion...aka Artie Johnson.... and during this time I was thinking......"I reallllllllllly hope the tip over protection engineering works like the videos"......then there was that loud clunk those of us know ..... followed by everyone looking my way from the Overlook. I waved to them and uprighted the bike with ease ......just like the videos....but this got me in the tip over club and some memories for other bikers there since I had the bike upright before they there to help me. They were all amazed at no damage and the Victory design to help.....my wife was less impressed since she wanted me to park on the road and reminded me of this just a few times that day as we continuted the ride. No damage.....a big plus..........embarrassing yes. Thank you Victory Mike |

| Mine was on the side of an offramp.
I left it in neutral on a slight forward decline. I was 15 feet away when it rolled off the stand.
The concrete scuffed / chipped the underside of the wings and I have spray paint ordered from the dealership that is color matched.
Unfortunately, the order is a min. of two cans.
My Vision is the 2009 Black and Silver.
If your silver wing tip is the same color as mine and you need some, I'll send ya one if ya need it. |

Great stories guys. We've all been there (TOC) and as long as we can laugh about it later it's all good. |

Posts: 133 , AR United States | My Vision has gone over twice. The first time was not long after I got it. I pulled into TGIF's in North Little Rock and immediatly found an empty parking spot on my left, I started in only to see an Employee of the Month sign, so I whipped back right and turned into an aisle of spaces to find another. I saw the second space on my right was empty and went for it. Unfortunatly I was not prepared for the sudden turn and was still on the brake when I started turning. Down it went on the right. My first instict was to stand over it and pull up on the handlebars, it didn't budge. So I put the kick stand down, turned my back to it and lifted it by the grab bar and handle bar, piece of cake. Although a passerby was coming to help I think I had it up before I saw him and thanked him anyway. All this happened in a matter of a few seconds so I decided it was over too quick to get embarrassed about and went into the restaurant and had dinner.
The second time I was distracted by a vehicle and didn't put down the kick stand while parking. It's a funny feeling the instant you realize you've gone past the point it should have rested on the stand.
Also I should say hello to all, I have been reading these forums for months, but I just joined Vision-Riders a day or two ago. |

Also I should say hello to all, I have been reading these forums for months, but I just joined Vision-Riders a day or two ago. Welcome.... Same here on a new FZR 1000 I bought back in 1989. I got into the bad habit of ridding right into the garage and stopping...then snaping the sidestand down while I was still on the bike and neither foot on the floor...then simply getting off the bike and walking away. This all worked out great for months then one day something happened and I forgot to snap the sidestand down....weirdest sensation falling over in super slow motion like that. I recall vividly my two thoughts......this might be expensive and what was I thinking. As it turned out the answers were.... not expensive luckily...........and I not thinking about anything........nor was I distracted. For months after that each time I put the bike in the garage I tried to figure out why I never snapped the sidestand down that day........no luck there either, but it never happened again because I never tried it again after that. The fairing did have a small scuff so I cut some nicely shapes from reflective tape and put this on both sides....it worked since no one ever had a reason to ask me how the fairing got scuffed and I never had to tell the real reason .....until now that is. Posts: 3204 Memphis | Nasty weather today. It hasn't rained in awhile and I always get a little nervous riding in on the first day of fresh rain. I don't mind the weather, it's the other drivers that are gonna take me out. I got in the wife's car (since it's Saturday, everybody is sleeping in and laying around all day) and came to work this morning. I passed three wrecks on the main artery feeding the loop around Memphis (Yes! Good call self!) I got to work and flashed my badge to the gate guard. 50 feet after the entrance is a 90 degree right turn into the main parking lot. Hanging over that turn is a giant oak tree and it had dumped an inch of wet leaves on the asphalt, right in the middle of that turn. If I had cheated death long enough to make it to work alive, that's where I would have dumped the bike. I'll ride again tomorrow when the high will be 33, low will be 17, winds 20+ mph, but it will be clear and dry. A man's got to know his limitations. |

| Still don't get this falling off your bike because you hit leaves, oil, antifreeze thing..... but I do understand how one could lose balance and drop their bike. Glad it wasn't serious....... |
