Took the Vision in back in May, due to some oil on the shock mount. Dealer said it was just from a previous oil change (yeah right) and not to worry. Well it finally let loose. Its like driving and old chevy with bad shocks, bounces, sways, and bottoms out. So anyone know if there is an aftermarket one that will work that wont cost $650.oo plus or minus? There is one on Ebay but the it might or might not be good phrase got my attention. Am going to try the extended warranty first but we all know how that goes.

mike, keep in mind if you have record of your complaint back in May that is where the warranty is covered. Force that issue if they give you grief over it.

Well at 55700 miles, the shock will be replaced under the extencded warranty. Funny thing though, as I was picking the bike up from the dealer after the warranty guy was checking it, another 08 vision came in with....the same thing. And as I was researching shocks for a better price I noticed that power sport warehouse, (a link I got from searching previous posts) they had the shock for a hundred bucks cheaper, but more important was the part number. It said that it replaces xxx...whick was the oem part number from Polaris. I asked my parts guy at the dealer and he said when he input the original part number, the new number came up. So maybe there were a batch of bad shocks and Victory/Polaris knew about them and had new seals or something done to come up with a replacement shock. This is just speculation on my part, but I was the third bike this month at my shop for the same problem, all of them Visions were 08's, one with 32k, two with 50k plus or minus....food for thought people...

The new shock number is due to an improvement in the hardness and finish of the shock shaft. This was done to reduce seal failures. My dealer's tech called the factory's suspension guy for me. Reason I was asking was because the '11 seems to ride firmer than the '10 did and I was trying find out what they changed when I noticed the new part#.

Had the new shock put on yesterday. On the ride home I realized how bad the ride had really gotten. My Vision now feels like a new bike and handles I think better than it ever did. Im sure its just the fact that I had gotten used to it gradually going bad, but man, I ready to hit the twisties once again.

Sounds like a ride up to Apache Lake is in order??? Take the gravel shortcut and get it sideways at any speed. Ride hard, ride fast, but above all ride- safe....

Until we meet again.....

Apache lake...now thats funny. I did go as far as Tortilla Flats, night and day difference. Then went and did the old 666 (now 191) and same results. I live at the end of a mile long dirt road and get her sideways once in awhile....neighbors know I'm a little nuts.....lol

I live in an apartment complex and having the neighbors know that I am a bit crazy keeps them at bay.... at least the ones I don't care for. In the spring I will check out my shock some more, seems like even at 40 pounds it still will bottom out. This is with a 40 lb bag on the passenger seat. Guess I should see what is the psi for the weight I carry and my big bones. Oh yes, the ride to Tortilla Flats - mine was last Christmas time, the day of the sand storm that killed a couple of people on the freeway at Casa Grande. My Brother and I rode in that weather threw hail, rain and cross winds that made us both glad we were able to complete the trip back to his place in Catalina. The best ride of my life because it was the first for my Brother and I together, trust me it was not for the faint of heart!

Ride hard, ride fast, but above all - ride safe......

I believe you have an 8-Ball Vision, if you do, this bike has a 1.1" shorter rear suspension travel than a Vision Tour motorcycle. With the shorter travel on the rear shock, you will no doubt have to run a higher air pressure in the shock to keep from bottom out.

Thanks Tex. I have an 08 Vision SP right now. The plan is to trade in the 03 TCD and the 08 Vision SP for a 2011 V8-ball. I am a big guy and I think that is part of the problem, also the bump I hit with 40 psi would have bottomed out most any bike. Have a great riding day.

Your right on the bumps, some of these roads are really terrible. RR crossings aren't getting fixed, these states are getting low on cash and the Feds as well. The roads are suffering, and us along with it. Actually on I-59 north bound in Alabama this summer hit a bump that shut off the cruise.
