I just received the 08 Vision Premium that I bought from a guy in MI.

Checking it out in the garage tonight I had my hands on the handlebars and they move up & down a little.

Is this normal ? Is it some kind of vibration dampening ?

So far - this is a great bike. I am coming off of an 05 Gold Wing so I know it's going to be different but a different I like.

They should feel rigid. I would say you need to check the mounting bolts. A little tough to get to and they are metric allen head bolts if I remember correctly.

not to dispute hoosiervic, but they should be "firm" as they are mounted on rubber bushings giving some play when you move them fore and aft. However, I would question either the tightness or the wear of the bushing if they are loose in general operations. A few have mentioned theirs being worn out and needing replaced, I'm still on my originals with no issues.

30,000 miles and no play in the handlebars.

You should swing by a dealer and have him check to see if all the up dates were done to the bike and ask him about the bars.
Take your vin number with you. I don't mean to say the other guy beat the bike od didn't do the up dates but give your self a piece
of mind.

+1 on what John said!

You are new to the Vision and there is surely tons of great advice here. But what you notice, what you describe, on anything, could be worlds apart from what we envision. Best to have a wrench at a dealer go over the bike with you. For a couple bucks you'll be safer and feel better. Good Luck and Enjoy!

There are isolation bushings at the bottom of the handlebars.  If the previous owner showed off the tipover protectors a lot when he first got his Vision, the bushings will wallow out from picking up the bike numerous times.  (Ask me how I know.)  Hold the tips of the handlebars with just two fingers and move them up and down.  If they  move, they are too loose.  If you have to grab them with full grips to make them move, they are probably ok.  Go to the dealer and wiggle the handlebars on a new one and see how they feel in comparison.

You said you "received" the bike... was it shipped? Hopefully they did not use the handlebars to tie down the bike (happens all too often with shipping folks who don't know better). If they did, that might explain your problem.
