| Like I mentioned in my last (and first) post, I'm here to learn a bit about the Vision. I have a question for you owners about the exhaust pipe setup.
On the right side, it appears that both headers feed into a single exhaust, but I can't really tell because of the cover. But then, there's a pipe on the left side as well. Does the header actually cross over to the left side, or is the left pipe a fake?
Thanks!

| Seems weird, not terribly efficient flow, but at least it IS functional, I guess. I have serious issues with non-functional fake bits (like side scoops on new Mustangs, for example).

Can of worms but please explain "Seems weird, not terribly efficient flow" are you referring to the crossover as "non-functional fake bits " ? |

At very high RPM in a hot-rodded engine - this is not so important - so 'hot-rodders' have been known to go with 'straight-pipes' to speed up the exhaust process.
While this works on a hot-rod, it does NOTHING to make a street bike run better - in fact - makes it worse - which is why the engineers put the crossover on ALL bikes.
Remember the Honda 750-4 ? Those 4 pipes curling out of the front of the engine went into a single chamber - then exited into 4 exhaust pipes.
All my Virago V2's had a similar setup.
When you see 'true' pipes on a street bike (no crossover) just smile, in the knowledge that your bike runs better. |

I was referring to 1.) the pipe being tied in at a (roughly) right angle, and 2.) the pipe being rectangular instead of rounded. Both factors would be impeding smooth airflow. I didn't mean the crossover was non-functional. I thought perhaps the left pipe was entirely fake since both headers looked like they joined in the right pipe. I had seen where someone had an aftermarket setup like that, and made me wonder about the stock one.

| If you look at aftermarket pipes for other makes you will see this crossover in different shapes. Each Mfr. has their own prefered shape. From what i understand it alows the pressure wave to carry out without stopping momentairly when the valve closes. So the shape may or may not affect the wave leaving ....just depends on the designer. IMO
I just tell people its my Dilitheum Intermix Camber......

Posts: 466 Grand Cane, LA | If you have 1" holes in them, then they are defective or someone has drilled them out. They are solid honeycombs. Pulled them out of my original header and they were a pain in the a** to get out due to the crimp in the pipe that holds them. Had to buy another header because the bike ran like crap without them. Exhaust would only flow out one side without them. |

Oh, they serve a purpose. They're the "off switch" when my wife gets mad at me.
