Should say that in your owner's manual.
IIRC, other than Oil+filter, it's a drive belt adjust, play in throttle, check all fasteners, general check-over, and spark plug change (in my case, but likely not necessary). My dealer asked ~ $200 for this.

I am a strong believer in having the shop do the first service. If you have a good shop that checks everything on the list, you will justify the cost. When your mech comes out and says everything is okay you feel overcharged but if he found anything and it saved you getting hurt it's priceless.

They should certainly check all functions incl. seat. This is probably just a disconnected cable. Mine had the grip heater high and low switched.

Do you know how to do your own oil changes?? If you do start a ledger and keep track of what you do and save recites from buying the oil and the filters. Stay with the factory oil till 5000 thousand miles then switch if you want. Every thing I have read be a victory or another model it takes about that length of time for the rings to seat. I see its a 09 vision if its not new?
Don't for get ask question like are all the up dates done to the radio and the rest of the bike.
First time oil and inspection is 500 in minnesota

$500 for oil and inspection is outragious! I'll do my own for the cost of the oil and filter which is between $60 and $70 dollars. I can check fasteners and belt and adjust accordingly.

Did all my own oil changes on my TCD. Not a problem. And now with only 5 quarts to drain vs. 6 in the TC, I can fit my smaller drain pan underneath.

My dealer called this service a glorified oil change. He told me what to check so I did it myself for only the cost of oil and filter. Btw in 600 miles nothing was in need of tightening at that point. At least on my vision.

let them do the first one it's a hard $200. plus at first. then do the rest yourself @$60.00 and 30 minutes, but keep a log going .

I did my first and all subsequent maintenance on my vision. While it does take time to go through all the fasteners and adjust everything, my bike was up in the air for three evenings, I can't think of a better way to get to know your bike and be able to ride with complete confidence that the service was completed correctly. Some have great shops/mechanics that they trust-I prefer to pack my own parachute-Brian

I paid the $200 for the first inspection/oil change. When I called them at about the 600 mile point to schedule the service, they told me it would be better to wait until at least 1,000 mile so when they checked it over, it had more time to break in. I took it in at about 1,200 miles. My dealer is an hour away and I don't like to wait. They did let me "Test Ride" a Hammer while my Vision was being serviced.

So I have always done my own service. I have installed aftermarket cams, carbs, valve adjustments, belts, etc. I feel totally qualified to handle the 500 mile. But being the diligent guy that I am, I wanted to hear Polaris tell me that my warranty will not be in Jeopardy if I do so.

I called twice. The first time the customer service rep told me that as long as I used Victory motor oil, they didn't see it as a problem, BUT, check with the dealer where I purchased it. So I did. Salesman said I would be fine, Service guy said no way, 500 mile must be done by the dealer.

I called Polaris again today, when I got a rep on the phone I pushed harder. I told them I was receiving conflicting information and I wanted clear direction and assurance that my 5 year warranty will remain intact if I did the 500 mile myself. They put me on hold to check with a supervisor.

Official answer: Although you may perform ANY service yourself, ANY problem that would develop with the bike during the warranty period, that they believe to have been preventable at the 500 mile service, would NOT be covered unless the dealer, and certified Victory mechanic performs the 500 mile service. I was further advised that the policy for 500 mile service being mandatory to have done by the dealer is solely up to the dealer.

In a nutshell, Polaris view is that if you do it yourself, and ANYTHING goes wrong later they will deny claims based on a non-victory trained mechanic doing it.

Just sharing what they told me.

From I have been told and have learned over the years it takes miles for rings and valves to seat. What we have the most of is time so why rush. You can ask Kevin if I am wrong but thats what I have done in the past and never had a oil burning engine but then I never rev the motor when its cold either.

Study your owners book and when you get your first oil change ask question if only to find out if they know what there doing. To many dealers have grease monkeys that are not very smart and when it comes to any question about a 20 thousand bike you want good people working for you.
When I have has a dealer work on my bike I check every thing over when I get home. Its not fun having a problem 80 miles from home.

I think tralphaz is on to the right answer, since it sounds legal.

But guys and gals (lurkers, maybe) what is it worth for your dealer relationship??? There are two things that they might make money on to keep a paycheck and the lights on, sales and, um, oh yeah, SERVICE. My dealer hem-hawed (did I spell that right) with me in doing my own service, to include the first service and made it sound like that I would void my warranty unless they did everything. After many questions and discussion, I got the real answer, by having the dealer do it you will have a computerized history of services for your bike being done at the dealer. What I deduced (a legal term?) from all of this is that as long as I knew what I was doing and did it according to the frequency, I was okay.

Also, while on the road, November 15, 2008, almost one year exactly from my date of purchase, I call a dealer in Georgia to get the three year warranty. I heard they were offering discounts on the extended warranty and wanted the cheaper rate. Come to find out when I got back all dealers had the discount, but that has nothing to do with the story. I told him I had many, many miles on the bike and I was concerned that I might be screwing up by riding a bike so much. He assured me that Victory's are bullet-proof and that is what they are made to do. However, Victory doesn't like you putting on a lot of miles under warranty. I then asked him about the oil because I was running AMSOIL and if my motor blew-up, would my warranty cover the loss? His answer was, as long as the JASO oil was in the crankcase when she blew, they cannot deny your warranty. But he did go on to say they would probably try to though. But if you showed reasonably that you took care of your machine, legally they cannot deny their basic workmanship coverage.

So, you know what I did? I went out and rode like there is no tomorrow!

With that said, I've filed one warranty claim on the extended warranty for the fuel pump. Fortunately I did it before my dealer closed the doors, it was one of the very few things I had them do to my bike, I did the rest myself, minus the first service, and the 15,000 service. I don't think they closed the doors though just because I did my own services and learned about my machine.

Oh, one last note, now that I that I remember. Given the scernario that your motor blows, you'll need a trained tech to make the determination what caused it. So it pays to be on good terms with a dealer.
