Posts: 258 Akron, Ohio | I know the 08 manual says to use 92 octane fuel. When on the trip last year we could not always get it and I had to use 89 and even some 87. The thing that I found from this is that my bike runs better on the 89 octane then the 92 or 93. My milage is better and the idel is smoother. I actually gain about 4 miles per gallon using the 89. We ran through some low 90* days and I never had an octane knock. My bike does have the L1S1 that was done before I bought it. Just curious as to what others are running. If yours is not listed, please add it. |

| Try to use 93 as much as I can, epecially if it is hot and riding two-up. Mine rattles really bad under hard acceleration on 91. |

| My Vision has never popped. I have run regular in her because that was the only grade the station had on a trip. That tank seemed to burn through quick. When in the Black Hills I get about 2 MPG better than home. Difference I see is 3,000+ feet there and 50+ feet at home. More oxygen less mileage? O.o |

Posts: 494 Akron Ohio area | At sea level, you will need a higher octane level when compared to being in the high desert or mountain states.
You will see available octane levels in the 85 range at higher altitudes.
The 2011 Vision calls for 91 octane.
I will run 91 or greater during the break-in period. |

The shop manual says 92 octane for an 08. Weird that they are different.

Posts: 21 London, KY | I have used Regular in my '08 since I bought it with approximately 1000 miles on it. I did have a mild ping when cold a few months ago...had the dealer check the software and it has been fine since. I have found that Premium in this and my other bikes over the years seems to make them run hotter in temp. I have a Volvo XC90 with the 2.5 Turbo and I have used Regular in that since I bought it used. I did pull the plugs on the VV last week at 10K miles and they were surprisingly clean...light brown with just a little carbon on the front one. New plugs did make a difference...definetly noticed it when in 6th gear and lowish RPM. I also believe that the lower priced gas stations have fresher gas...so I use Speedawy, Pilot and the like....never had a problem. Did the Dragon last week and the VV ran like a top on rails...hate it when my bike is so much better than I am! Ride Safe |

Posts: 763 Anderson, IN (48mi NE of downtown Indianapolis) | I use regular 87. I pull a trailer with a motocross bike on it. The total weight including me, passenger, trailer, dirtbike, dog, gear, etc. is over 750 lbs. The motor has detonated only once when I was 2 gears too high exiting a turn on an uphill.
The motor is completely stock including the pipes. I only use Shell or BP. The elevation here is 700ft. 87 octane seems to work fine in my particular case. Motor mods, elevation change, quality of fuel, etc will problably yield different results. |

Posts: 619 Southeast Iowa | 91-93 octane from Shell or BP when possible, others work but anything below 90 likes to ping under load or hard acceleration. Not sure why some say higher octane does funny things like run hotter, pop, and so on. I'm far from an expert but too much octane should not cause any of those things. My guess is the brand of gas that they use has more to do with it than anything. |

Posts: 394 Tucson, AZ | I run 91 octane because it's the highest I can find in these parts. Generally I buy from Valero. I like to run some Chevron threw the ole gal once in a while for a treat. I also use some Sea Foam a couple of times a year as well. |
