I'm trying to figure out when this happened, but the forward hinge on my gas door is broke completely away from the rest. I think someone tried to break into my bike thinking it is some kind of glove box maybe. Of course, I always lock my fork and that is too the left, but that leaves this exposed and there an ample place to grab and pull, but it is overall very resistant. None the less, I'm trying to figure out how to fix this.

Chris:

There is a really good line of industrial cements for plastics made by IPS Corp., that are sold under the WELD-ON brand name. These are generally available at plastics houses and sign supply distributors. There should be one of these within easy access of you.

I'm not sure what the plastic body panels are made of (probably easy enough thing to find out, it may even be stamped on some of the parts ,like the access panel in front of the seat) but Weld-16 covers a good number of them.

USE one of the medium bodied adhesives, they take a little longer to set up but stay where you put them better than the water thin versions and are really strong . Basically what they do is "solvent weld" the plastic back together, or in other words they melt it.

Be careful not to get any on the painted surfaces of the bike because it will ruin anything it touches.

Good luck.

is it the body part, it looks to be part the whole right fairing, or is it just the upper piece? I don't know, never had it apart, but yes, it is midnight cherry. It looks easy enough to fix, and I'm on the high mileage side, but the price sounds right, where are you located?, thanks.
