'09 Tour has had the chirping since bought new back in March. Belt adjusted finally the pulley replaced (warranty) last month and now the chirping is back. Should they have replaced the belt also? I can even hear it when I have ear plugs in. It's embarrassing to ride this bike not only to me but should be to Victory also. My first belt driven bike and so far I'm not impressed with this system.

Alright Devil Dog, Take a few orders and fix your belt once and for all. If all of that was done, betcha cash to MRE's that you just need to adjust your rear pulley, so that the belt isn't rubbing, It is pretty simple you just need a few bottles of your favorite liquid and crawl around on the floor a little bit and look up under the rear skirt. It is fun times to be had by all. I wrote up a few directions as well as others, or use the ivory bar soap, or some of your favorite HD anti squeal liquid spray. Your choice.

go Navy!

Agree with Brian. I had the chirp, only when the bike was cold, did the belt alignment and tension myself and it is 100% gone. Section 2.24 here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?nhegoyzfeni

Well it chirps all the time and does this mean my Vic tech needs to go back to school? As much as this thing cost it sure is a mickey mouse deal and don't get me started on the truck rattle this thing has. I love the handling and ride of this bike but these two things are sure making me unhappy.

yes to your tech needs to go back to school to THINK! Most techs don't wind up fixing the problem, they just shrug their shoulders and go "That must be the way IT IS!" the truck rattle can also be fixed. I think if you want you might go back and explain to the dealer, mechanic, owner, or whoever wants to keep you happy.

Biscuit, if you can, you should fix it yourself. If you have a bike lift, you are talking 30 minutes to fix the chirp.

Having a belt chirp since the bike was new! Normally it does not show up until several thousand miles are on the bike. I had a belt chirp for ~25000 miles after the first 5000 miles. Could not adjust out, I ajusted the belt probably 50 times during that time. I did every thing the manual stated, plus the new settings, and every other thing mentioned here. The belt was replaced at 30,000 miles and have not heard the chirp since unless it is cold and that is only for the first 1/2 mile.

+1 on the do it yourself comments. my belt chirped when i brought the bike home. did my own tension
& alignment. was great till i had tires installed at 20,000km, after that it chirped like a canarey. had to do it myself again.. all is good once more. 26,000km now

The chirp didn't start until I had about 4000 miles on the bike (9000 now) and the belt has been adjusted 4 times with the 3rd time not lasting out the the dealers driveway. The last adjustment when the pulley was changed only lasted about 1200 miles. I'm going to call the dealer in the AM and see if they will pony up a new belt. They have been really nice to me even though I didn't buy the bike there and unfortunately they are also closing up real soon and are well into their going out of business sale.

Biscuit, I think your belt is too tight... The Vision belt feels a little loose at cold and that is normal.

I took a measurement at the shock bolt and there is 1 1/4 " of slack in the belt

if you dont have the tension measuring stick your measurement will be a little off it only takes 10lbs of pressure for the deflection. You will need a mm measuring stick to get it right i run mine between 25-30. just something i learned was that the belt will track different on the pulley when you turn the wheel by hand and riding the bike. i adjusted mine to ride on the inside of the pulley when i turned the rear tire and when i rode the bike it was riding almost in the middle of the rear pulley. just for info the next tire change you dont half to mess with the belt tension it will come off without any issue.

Hopefully they'll get a new belt for you Biscuit.

I never had the "chirp" but I did have a growl, I guess mine was tougher than a Marine's bike being that it belongs to an Airborne Paratrooper.

As soon as I did the belt tension to the looser specs, mine stopped and hasn't done it since. Maybe I never had the condition that caused the chirp, though I know what you're talking about. You could also put some sort of dressing on it and see if it helps. Marines always looked good all dressed up.

Chris I also have the growl when I lean the bike even just a little in either direction and while I wonder about what that is it's not a game changer on the bike even though this is the noisiest bike I've even owned. BTW, I have never understood why somebody would jump out of a perfectly good airplane except for those nuts in the recon Marines who I don't think even used chutes. I don't think putting dressing on a $23000 bike is an option. BTW, I rode a Wing trike yesterday and I hope the day never comes when I need one of these because it was an awful ride. There is nothing like two wheels.

I agree on many points - the growl you refer to on the lean is the E3s, which is a characteristic of them. I've never owned an armada of motorcycles, mine include 2-CB350, a '81 CB750 Custom, '84 GoldWing GL1200, 2008 Classic Victory Vision Midnight Cherry Tour Premium LE w/Tassles, and I always thought motorcycles were noisey as it equates riding in the engine compartment of a car with the hood off. Also, I growed up around heavy machinery and getting hit in the head all the time by an older brother, and also jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, I may have landed on my head a few times, so the noise may not be an issue to me as it is too others that live their life in the details as the Marines.

Lastly, on the belt tension, you know it is measured at the "tightest point on the belt".

We still have to plan lunch but I'm in Petersburg for the next two months. We can maybe do it on a Friday.

I agree that it is nice to know how to do the repairs yourself, but it is incredible stupid to take the technician, dealer, and manufacturer responsibility from them. These people must be forced to hold up their end of the bargain. You should take it back again, and tell them that it is still the original problem so you expect to go to the front of the service line.

hear hear!

I tried that, all I got was NO RIDING TIME AND NOTHING RESOLVED. That was back in my popping days and when I sniffled over a dimple in my bag doors. Yeah, I'll do it myself, thank you.

Went to the dealer this morning right after they opened and talked to the tech that has done all the adjusting and he said never heard of having to replace the belt after the pulley had been replaced. Going back @ 4 for the appointment and another look see. When I got home 30 minutes I felt the belt and it was tight and now after being home for an hour and a half and playing two hands of online poker (won one) the belt is still pretty tight. Being retired I don't mind the 32 miles one way to the dealer after all it is riding. I'll give a report when I get back later today. Thanks for all the help, advice, the BS and general concern.

Don;t go by the Vic tech, mine was out of wack, now is good ( looser then I think it should be but good)
Our KP 8BAll was delivered with the belt so tight it sang, "wop wop wop" around all the corners, tech said it was suppose to be that way..same tech that said my loose vision belt was suppose to be that way! LOL I know the Vision belt shoudl run a little looser. Good friend with an 08 had both pulleys replaced on his and she is good now .

Adjust like the directions above and you'll be good! Dealers should know how and be nice to have some on site techs that can think for themselves a bit.
I can say I only ever once had a belt issue on one of my HD's, the 06 Sg needed to be a little looser then the book setting!

AHHHHHH!! The joys of a good tech! I would think if your in the area of VAiknowmyvisioninsideandoutRyder, he would be able to give a hand or at least take cash for his Christmas fund in exchange for a non squeaky belt drive.

Back to the dealer this afternoon tech takes the bike out for a spin and comes back and tells me I have a bad tire that comes from low air pressure. I tell him I'm a stickler for keeping up maintenance including air pressure. Takes a reading and 43 lbs shoots that theory down. Readjust the belt after the bike cools down a bit and comes back in from another ride and says I'm going to order you a belt. I love it when a tech says I've never had to replace a belt after putting a new pulley on. I had a small paint problem on the trunk lid the last time I was in and the Mother ship is going to replace that also from pictures taken on my previous visit. Hopefully this will take care of the chirping and he ordered some bumpers that Victory said will take care of the trunk rattle.

Well it came back and Victory said to try one more belt adjustment last week and it still is singing me a tune. Dealer called this afternoon and Victory is going to replace both pulleys and the belt. Already had the large pulley replaced and it only has about 2500 miles on it so hopefully this will be the real deal finally. They are also replacing the lid on the truck which has a paint defect that can only be seen at a certain angle. That really surprised me and while we have that off Vic has some whiz bang bumpers to take care of the trunk rattle. Next week is the last week for Catlin's but they will continue to do factory warranty until the first of the year.

I wonder if you have a lift? I get the wheel off the ground and like the book says check belt tension in 4 places. No I have one of the cheap lazier pointers
and hold it at the edge of the pulley and spin the wheel "forward" never back wards. Now I adjust the belt so it goes in a straight line. A bent line will brake the belt. Its hard to see but you want the belt straight and your dealer is doing something other then that. A straight line will keep the belt off the edges of the rear pulley. I have thought that the belt is maybe a mileometer to wide.
Ask the mechanic what he is trying to do when he adjusts the belt.
Ask Ask questions you never can get to much information
